  Not sure why the older white man at the gun counter could not be bothered to assist me or offer me an easy option to retake the firearms safety test to reissue me a FSC (which I would have gladly paid for over driving 35 mins each way to my house) so that I could initiate my background check after I had already ordered my firearm and paid for it online, and preferred assisting the disheveled customer with only a utility bill in her niece’s name or a copy of a lease agreement while I had printed documents and highlighted my proof of residency on utility bills and mortgage tax form. Maybe he was put off by having to help someone with a very well behaved child? Or could he not see someone who is a mother wanting to purchase a firearm to protect her home and child? Though he was literally on the clock, his time seemed more valuable than mine and perhaps he didn’t see that I had the potential to purchase more things had I received better service from him. Emmanuel offered a reasonable solution and saved the day. I moved from Illinois years earlier, had been married to law enforcement/firearms instructor - the process in California was completely new to me. The background check in IL is completed BEFORE one can purchase a gun and it’s done through the State Police. California is so backwards. He gave the previous associate an opportunity to follow through and finish checking me out but apparently he did not want to do any of the paperwork for me or maybe I triggered something that bothered him. I am a law abiding citizen, contributing member of society, work two jobs as a registered nurse - one as a full-time trauma nurse, a single mother, homeowner to two properties, and landlord who only wants to exercise her 2nd Amendment rights and add some peace of mind at home as there are some deranged people out there that there is no amount of de-escalation techniques that may save an innocent person’s life. I also would like to acknowledge how friendly and sweet Cliff, the store manager, was - he approached my daughter and offered her a hot pink lure worm as a little gift. It was gesture that meant a lot to me. I didn’t know he was the manager until later when Emmanuel had him check through my paperwork before finalizing everything. His interactions with us made me want to buy other things we didn’t need before we left - I got my daughter a little fishing pole and net. It took two positive interactions to offset the first person’s impact on my visit at this store but I hope some retraining occurs. Maybe he is not a parent to a daughter. Somehow I could feel that Emmanuel knew why I was there and my reasons for making my purchase. I appreciated it more than he could ever know. Thank you.

  The young man you have working in the fishing department has an incredible amount of knowledge on fishing.

  Stand at fishing department to buy reel for 15 mins.try to make eye contact and looking for staff nobody want to talk to me.Happen twice to me but no more. This place is good but customer service is suck.

  Nice store. Good selection. There are trigger locks on all guns and even the lever action rifles are zip tied. Not great for picking out a new gun. Guy says it’s CA policy but this is the first place I’ve seen it implemented.

  Attentive service became way too scrutinizing. An employee spot me at a different area of the store and asked if I picked out any flies at the fly section I was at earlier. I showed him the two I had in my hand. He proceeded to take them from me and told me they will be at the front desk waiting for me. I feel the way he went about it was condescending as if I was going to steal them. They're only 2$ a piece.
