Dear, Nordstrom Rack -Brea ,CA
I am writing to formally express my concern regarding an experience I had at the Nordstrom Rack store in Brea, California, on Christmas Eve.
I am a loyal and frequent Nordstrom customer. I am consistently shopping at Nordstrom and take pride in being a valued customer.
On Christmas Eve, shortly after the store opened at 8:00 a.m., I visited the Nordstrom Rack in Brea to pick up an online order. While I was there, I also shopped in the store and made an additional purchase. Upon entering, I was greeted by the store manager, who was kind and professional throughout my visit.
However, despite this positive interaction, I had an extremely uncomfortable experience while shopping. As an African-American woman, I felt I was being closely followed and monitored by multiple employees throughout the store. Every aisle I entered, another employee appeared and watched me as I shopped. One employee followed me around for an extended period of time. I observed that customers of other races were not being treated in this way.
This is not the first time I have experienced this at a Nordstrom Rack location, which is why I typically only shop there for online order pickups. Unfortunately, this experience reinforced my discomfort and concern.
Being treated as though I were a suspect rather than a customer was deeply upsetting. I work hard for my money, I am a responsible professional, and I do not deserve to be made to feel like a thief simply because of my race. This type of treatment is not only unacceptable, but it also creates a hostile and anxiety-inducing shopping environment for African-American customers.
The experience caused me significant stress and anxiety. By the time I returned to my car, my blood pressure was elevated and I needed time to calm myself before I could even write this review . No customer should leave a store feeling this way.
At this point, I do not feel comfortable shopping at Nordstrom Rack locations anymore, even for order pickups. This issue needs to be addressed, as no customer should feel targeted, stereotyped, or discriminated against while shopping.
