  Today, I went to the store looking for a good pair of shoes. While browsing, I found a pair tagged as "clearance." However, when I looked up the regular online price, the store’s base "clearance" price was identical to the standard regular price—it only dropped because of an extra 20% off tag applied at the store. I tried to explain to the store manager that labeling an item as clearance when its starting price is just the regular price is misleading branding, as clearance and standard sales are completely different. She didn't seem to understand the concept of misleading pricing at all and assumed I was just trying to argue for a bigger discount. To prove my point, I used AI on my phone to show her the clear definition of misleading branding, but she simply dismissed it, claiming the AI was wrong and that technology makes mistakes. While she stayed polite and noted that corporate sets the pricing, misrepresenting regular prices as clearance still feels deceptive, making me wonder if this is an everyday practice or just a one-off error.
