Super friendly staff. Lillie was so helpful to helping me decide on options. The Sporting goods was equally talented; the technician spent so much time to talk to me about tennis rackets and helping me figure out string tensioning. I can’t wait to try out my new Head racket.

I had a very disappointing experience with the fitting room staff and the manager at Sporting Life Southgate location. I brought three jackets to the fitting room and was told that I wasn’t allowed to try them on inside and that coats had to be tried on outside the fitting rooms. I’ve never been told at any other store that I couldn’t use a fitting room to try on a jacket, so I was genuinely confused and asked why. I was simply told that it was company policy. I was wearing a hoodie with only a camisole underneath, so I asked if I was expected to take off my hoodie in the hallway outside the fitting rooms just to properly try on the jackets. The employee then said she could let me use a fitting room. As I followed her, I clearly saw her roll her eyes at me. I found that extremely disrespectful. I wasn’t refusing to follow the policy — I was simply asking a reasonable question about a rule I had never heard of and that wasn’t posted anywhere. After trying on the jackets, I asked if there was any written or posted policy I could see. The employee took me to the manager, Christeena. I asked Christeena if she could show me where this policy was stated. She initially told me there was nothing she could show me and that I could go online to make a complaint. I also asked for a customer service or complaint phone number, but none was provided. I found her attitude dismissive and unhelpful as well. Eventually, they brought out a “Changeroom Mystery Shop Guideline” that specifically states that customers trying on coats should be directed to try them outside the changeroom. When I asked why they hadn’t shown me this when I first asked about the policy, I was told they had forgotten about it. I have no problem following store policies. My issue is how this was handled. If customers are expected to follow a policy that isn’t posted anywhere, they shouldn’t be made to feel like they’ve done something wrong simply because they didn’t know about it or asked for clarification. I actually had other items I was planning to purchase, but after this interaction, I no longer felt comfortable continuing to shop and left without buying them. A simple explanation and a respectful attitude would have been enough. Rolling your eyes at a customer and being dismissive when they ask to see an unposted policy is completely unnecessary. Clear signage at the fitting rooms could have prevented this entire situation in the first place.
