- ATAlicia TransueJun 30, 20201.0This has been the WORST experience EVER. We got the smart start put in our vehicle. Since we have had nothing but issues. Yesterday our vehicle just refused to start at 6pm after we had taken a trip to the grocery store. We called tech support twice did everything they said and nothing worked. We were told there is nothing that can be done at that time as everyone had closed! This is our ONLY vehicle we both work. My son had been dropped off for a birthday party and we were supposed to pick up my jr high son was home alone until we got back. We had to tow the vehicle ourselves. And now it is 2:18 pm the next day and they still have not looked at our vehicle and are saying they may not be able to help today. WHAT. We have no other vehicle. This is so stressful and unnecessary. This is NOT okay at all. We are a family left stranded because of SMART START. DO NOT USE THEM. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY.

How does an Interlock Device work?
When you blow into your Ignition Interlock Device, you're providing a breath test sample in order to start the vehicle. The device then measures your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), and will either say that you passed, need to retest, or failed. You will be asked to take rolling retests throughout your drive.
What can breathalyzers detect?
Breathalyzers only measure your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC).
Is an Ignition Interlock the same as a breathalyzer?
Ignition Interlock and handheld breathalyzers both test your Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC), but an Ignition Interlock Device is only installed in vehicles and prevents the car from starting if there is alcohol detected. A handheld breathalyzer only detects alcohol and may tell you the concentration.
