Where do I even begin? The Door Dilemma of 2024 (ongoing): Shortly after moving into my unit here two years ago, we noticed the exterior door to our balcony did not seal properly, and allowed wind and cold air into our apartment (very noisy and very inefficient for air conditioning and heat to run.) Once we put in a maintenance request, maintenance came and further damaged our door so that it was permanently open about one inch, which they kindly sealed with painters tape for us. We waited weeks and weeks for management to get in contact with the vendor of the door, and eventually the entire door was replaced. After that whole ordeal, the new door is just as bad, if not worse, and during windy days we have to seal it with cardboard so we can hear ourselves think over the sound of the wind whistling into our unit. When we mentioned the added costs to heating and cooling to the then-manager, he insisted temperature did not work that way (??). The broken elevator (ongoing): There are three elevators in the lobby of this building. One has been down since January. Management seems totally unconcerned. I guess we have a decorative elevator now. Maybe that's why rent increased. The fire alarm (recurring issue): There have been multiple occasions where the building fire alarm announces we must evacuate, only for us to receive an email from management that this is not a fire and we do not need to evacuate. There was also an occasion after the office closed where the fire alarm went off, and after investigating we determined this was another false alarm, even though no management was on site to notify us. Is asking for a working fire alarm really too much? Axton Madison sold my data to an AI company (ongoing): This community has contracted a third party AI to replace conversations between residents and real people. I received terms and conditions, after the fact, notifying me that information such as my SSN was available to this third-party company. I did not ask Axton to share this information, and I did not consent at the time. I suppose they hid a stipulation in the lease. "Amenities": If you heard we have a vending machine, that is not true. If you heard we have a hot tub, that is kind of true as long as you don't actually want it to be hot and they aren't currently doing maintenance on it. General management issues: I get an email from an employee about once every two weeks that says I am "going to lose my bed space if I don't renew my lease right now." Except I have renewed my lease, and they just like to threaten me with homelessness for fun. I could keep going but I'll stop here. Many of these issues are surely prevalent at similarly-priced apartments, but I would be remiss not to share my experiences here. Overall, I feel it comes down to lack of accountability from management. As long as I'm paying my rent, why would they need to fix the third elevator?

The management and staff are nice but the rent for a 2 bed 2 bath is way too high (a little over $1600 a month per person this year ) for there to be constant maintenance issues. The elevators have been breaking pretty frequently. The elevator on the left side of the main lobby has been out of order for at least the last month. Then every other week (sometimes back to back) 1 of the 2 remaining elevators break. This becomes a big problem when you have tons of residents needing to use the elevator because you end up waiting 5-7 minutes for one to come down. Also, I’m not entirely sure when exactly management switched, but in November the mini convenience snack store on the 12th floor was emptied out and we received an email stating that they were upgrading/replacing snacks and that it’s be stocked as soon as possible (once the new equipment came in). It’s now March and the last time I checked, the vending/snacks are still empty. This is frustrating because this is one of the main amenities of the complex and I move out end of July, so it’s possible that I won’t even get to use that amenity. Additionally, for like a majority of February, the internet in the entire complex was finicky and barely working. I submitted a maintenance request and the maintenance person only came to my apartment to say that they couldn’t do anything and that I’d have to call the WhiteSky phone number. I did this and it was so frustrating communicating with them because it was like a game of tag trying to get a response. So because I didn’t have sufficient wifi in the complex for the majority of February, I had very long, arduous days on campus because I couldn’t complete any school work in the comfort of the complex/my apartment. I reached out to management and she was nice about it. I was told a WhiteSky technician would stop by the apartment to fix it, but I’m not sure if they’ve been by or not because I haven’t received any updates on that. I honestly didn’t respond to the apartment manager because at that point, I was severely over it and was working on fixing my apartment’s wifi on my own. Additionally, the front desk staff are pretty nice, but it’s also very common for them to not pick up the phone. There has also been a few times where I’ve stood at the front desk for 20-30 minutes during business hours waiting for help, but nobody would be there. I understand that it’s a big complex, but I think that’s a bit crazy of a wait time. So then I’d try calling because I thought they were maybe busy helping someone and possibly had a phone they take with them to answer resident calls. But again, nobody would pick up the phone. It also seems like they’ve hired several new people lately, so when I do catch an employee at the front desk they usually don’t know any answers to my questions and default to saying they’d have to ask their manager. This isn’t entirely on the new employees (maybe more so on management and training) but it’s frustrating to the point that I’ve just resorted to self/support avenues when issues arise because I already know that staff probably wont know how to help me. Lastly, I’ve had to ask several times over several weeks to be removed from the leasing renewal notifications after indicating to staff/management several times (email, in person, text message “bot”) that I won’t be renewing. I’d block the email but I can’t do that or else I won’t receive other important communication. Normally, I wouldn’t be this critical of an apartment complex but there’s certain expectations of living when you pay an arm in the leg for rent. I’m also not renewing here because the exponential increase in rent costs of moving to a studio or 1 bedroom, are not worth being inconvenienced so frequently. I give this complex a 3/5 because management/staff are pretty kind people. It’s definitely been a better overall experience than previous apartments I’ve lived in and they occasionally have nice events. I would’ve been willing to resign and deal with being inconvenienced though, if it was priced better.
