Cindy, the property manager or leasing agent, was fantastic during the tour and is a very nice person, the facility is amazing, but they bait and switch you with the prices on the units. Took time off work to tour the entire building and unit, discussed price and began the application just to find the unit was $120 more than we discussed and when asked about it, they say "The owner changed the price after you left." If this is how they treat potential residents I would be concerned living here.
I lived at the Napoleon for 4 years.
Pros:
My actual unit I did like. Fairly quiet from the street noise, as well as neighbors. One year the person above me seemed to stomp around a lot, and it was a bit annoying but the rest were not bad. Didn't hear noise from adjacent units.
They have convenient spots for hooking up portable AC units.
The internet options were really good, Centurylink/Quantum fiber was 70$ a month for fiber (1000 up/1000 down).
They actually gave me my security deposit back when I moved out.
Cons:
The management staff changed very frequently, and they got worse over time. The first 2 years or so I liked them, had zero issues. The people that were in charge when I left, however, were incompetent. They didn't respond to any of my emails for trying to get my ledger for my new apartment and when I finally ran into one of the management people at her desk one day she was told me "We don't check that email". Why do you put it on your business card on your front desk then?
I had major problems with the lock on my door the last year. It needs to either be replaced or repaired, but the Maintenance refused to do so. The locks are battery powered. You type in the code and spin the lock, but it doesn't unlock. It would regularly take several tries for it to finally open. The worse time it happened, it literally took over 10 minutes straight of trying to unlock the door before it would finally open. Every single time I told the management or maintenance people about this issue, they would just tell me to change the battery. It was not a problem with the battery. Maintenance changed it a couple times, when they would finally get around to doing so, or I would change it, but it never fixed the problem. This was not an isolated issue, multiple other people in the building had the same experience as I did.
The newer Management also messed up billing sometimes. In the last year, they would sometimes undercharge me and then complain that I wasn't paying the full bill. They also somehow broke everybody's key fob so that you couldn't use it to open the doors and they had to reprogram them for everyone which was really annoying.
The garbage chute was regularly broken. I think it was probably broken more often than it was functioning in my time there.
For a while, the front door just didn't work. You could not open it and had to use an alternate entrance on the backside of the building.
Parts of the 6th floor smells like pee all the time from the dog potty spot, so I would not live near there.
The garage is not as secure as it may seem. Break-ins were not uncommon and several motorcycles were stolen from the garage over the years. In response, they would hire a security guard for a few days who would sit in the garage in his car, where he would take a nap.
Overall, I liked my unit aside from the malfunctioning lock. However, the Management and Maintenance were very frustrating and most of the reason why I decided to leave. Having a functional lock on the door to your apartment should be a bare minimum expectation.
Also, you should know that they bribed residents for good reviews. Offered $50 off rent for a month.
I live here because I go to uw nearby. I work hard to afford rent here and pay $1500 a month and obviously the other residents assume you must be 50 years old and can only be white to live here đ multiple times, older residents have come up to me alone, or when Iâm with my friends asking for private information to prove i live here. A man even followed me to my apartment and forced me to put in my code because I was locked out and the call code thing they âclaimâ works to get in didnât work. I even showed him my rent statements and he STILL FOLLOWED ME. I shouldnât have to tell people my room number just because people are assholes. I understand theyâre working with new management now but theyâre not giving out any new fobs ? My partner has been on the lease for 3 months and theyâve yet to reach out themselves to offer a fob and weâve asked and itâs been new reasons every time
I spent several years at Napolean from 2022 to 2025. Several things happened in my last year there that warrant the low rating, primarily due to the move-out process as well as several security issues.
The communal bike storage was broken into, and my bicycle was stolen; however, I was not notified as they only notified individuals with stand-alone storage. This resulted in a delayed police report that I had to file and prolonged discussion with my insurance. I am unsure why they didn't notify all residents, but this is a security issue and unacceptable.
The move-out process was unsatisfactory. Napolean Apartments disabled the Parcel Pending package locker account prior to my declared move-out date, resulting in several packages being stolen/taken by someone else. Another security issue.
Additionally, the property management staff mailed a statement of deposit accounting for final payments. However, this was the incorrect statement, resulting in my receipt from a collections agency months later stating that I had not paid several move-out feesâthis was an oversight by management that affected my credit. I understand that errors happen. However, there was no attempt at a second notice via mail, phone, or email. It seems that this has happened before based on other reviews. Corporate Summerfield management was unwilling to retract the collections despite the recognized error.
The collections issue is unacceptable and should be considered by tenants before they sign a lease at this location.
The front office staff is very friendly, and I enjoyed my time here; however, communication is poor and I feel that it is necessary to let any future tenants know what they're getting into before committing to a Summerfield managed property.
This pains me to write because the Napoleon building itself is nice with modern amenities, but the management staff over the years has been absolutely horrendous. I don't know what it is, but they simply cannot get it right. If they were putting forth a good faith effort, that would be another story, but the consistent theme has been that the staff is ALWAYS gone and nowhere to be found during normal business hours. It is almost impossible to find them and get in contact with them for any issues. Maintenance? Forget about it. Issues have remained unresolved for months on end with no response or follow up from the management. I honestly have no idea if anyone even works here. The front desk is always empty and the manager's office is always blacked out with shades down. They also NEVER answer the phone or respond to messages. Truly a shame, because I wanted to love this place.
