Altitude has been one of the worst run buildings I’ve ever seen in my life. The doors on the side of the building are completely broken open and do not lock people from just walking in, making it easy for anyone to get into the building. It does not feel safe
The mailroom is horrible and delivery drivers leave packages sitting out in the hallways which end up going missing.
I have had a broken washing machine for days on end, and when the staff is asked for help they all just look dumbfounded and in aw at my question of “how can I fix the washer.” The staff are some of the most unhelpful individuals I’ve ever met. Responding with “we don’t know” or “I can’t help you.”
The hallways consistently smell horrible and dirt and messes are never cleaned up. Going months with dead bugs being left in hallways and mud spots.
Whoever owns and runs this building should be ashamed of themselves. Do not trust a thing that the website says about it being a 5-star experience. This is complete false advertising. Overall this is not a safe place to live, and is a complete scam.
did i make a mistake by signing my lease? ever since i have all i’ve seen is how dirty the place his, maintenance sucks, charging random items for too much, stuff looking cheap because it was rashly build, the staff is bad. this doesn’t look good. i’ve check someone of the other big off campus student housing and their recent reviews and haven’t seen this much hate on one except this. and the sad thing is, the altitude will reply but it looks like the issue is still not being resolved so why reply at all? i’ve seen other apartments owners reply with such car and give valid feedback and reason and really offer help. this is already putting a bad taste in my mouth living here and i just want a nice clean, helpful community and this place is already not living up to their competition

honestly this place is AWFUL. i would not recommend to anyone at all, the parking lot is dreadful and half of the time i have to drive around like 3 times just to find a parking spot thats not in tim buck two or full of snow because snow management just pushed all the snow in the parking spots like that helps. the staff is lackluster at best and has zero urgency about any issue you have. when you put in a maintenance request expect it to not get resolved in at least 1 hour, even if its "urgent or life threatening" they do not care and won't resolve your issue in a timely manner. it’s also ridiculous that maintenance staff isn’t 24/7, like you’re running a building with at least 700+ residents and you mean to tell me they aren’t on call to help, hell even when maintenance does come to look at your issue they act like you just killed their dog and don't want to be there and have the WORST attitude towards you no matter what the issue is. the trash chute broke down 2 almost 3 weeks ago and they still have yet to resolve the issue. my washing machine keeps breaking and not draining and i keep getting told it’s “not a priority” and that i “won’t have a washing machine until normal business hours” like are you kidding me, the staff here has no communication skills and the maintenance staff is awful to deal with. this place is a “glorified hotel” and my god do you get treated like that. not to mention the elevators are shaky and scrape and aren’t safe to use ngl, the windows have horrible sealing and i almost always feel a draft of cold air coming from my window/under this hVac system and it’s ridiculous, TLDR: the build was rushed and you can tell, the staff is zero help and 90% of the time i always get a passive aggressive attitude, the parking lot will make you just want to drive away, if you really need a place i suppose it could be ok in a pinch, i will say the rooms are a decent size and the closet size and bathroom size is great which is where they’ll get you, but if you’re looking for an enjoyable experience i would not recommend to anyone if i could give this place a zero star rating i would.
As a parent who helped my student secure housing at The Altitude in Harrisonburg, I feel compelled to share our experience.
In hindsight, we made the mistake of signing a lease here without doing enough research. I hope this review helps other families and students pause and look more carefully before committing.
We signed our lease in good faith. Shortly afterward (~2 months), the complex began advertising a “first month free” promotion for new leases. When I contacted management to request a courtesy adjustment — given how close our signing date was to the promotion — the matter was escalated to corporate and denied outright. The explanation was that they must maintain “consistency and equity” in their policies.
But there is nothing equitable about families who committed early paying significantly more than those who waited a few weeks. The message it sends is clear: early commitment and good faith don’t matter as much as timing and revenue.
After reading other reviews more closely, it now seems obvious why aggressive promotions may be necessary. There are recurring concerns raised by others, and instead of building goodwill with current residents, the company appears focused primarily on filling units and maximizing income.
As a parent, that is disappointing. Off-campus student housing should prioritize relationships, fairness, and long-term trust — not rigid policy enforcement that leaves committed families feeling penalized.
Do your research carefully before signing. I wish we had.
The building is new and nice but the management can improve.
They had events where 5 star reviews would be rewarded materially. So many of the reviews you see may be not honest as they may be bought.
Management wouldn't plow the snow or salt around the property quickly
Maintenance team would randomly come into the unit without warning
Smoke smell. But management wouldn't take enough actions.
