I lived at the Elms for 5+ years. I must admit it is a bit bittersweet moving on as the Elms has certainly become “home” over the years.
A few of the pros of the Arcola location include:
- The front office staff are very professional and friendly; they take the housing rules seriously which contributed to a sense of safety and community. If you ever run into an issue with your apartment, appliances, etc., go to the front office as they are eager to assist and respond quickly
- The Elms will frequently hold community events at the Welcome Center, a yearly summer pool party, and they just started running food trucks the last few years. These are available to the community. I’ve been to many of them and it’s nice to see your neighbors you wouldn’t normally get the chance to interact with
- There is an Amazon hub for safe package and convenient delivery which has been mostly reliable
- All guests have access to a secured FOB-key protected Gym + Pool. There’s plenty of equipment to choose from, but it can get packed in the evenings
- Units have in-unit washer and dryer
- The Elms location is very prime to many conveniences in the area. There are two Loudoun County Commuter bus stops for those who commute to the DC/Arlington Area just up the street; the Loudoun Metro Center is about a 20 min ride if you prefer Metro to commute into DC
- The Stone Springs hospital is 5 min away
- There are a plethora of grocery stores, shops, and a major spa in the area with Dulles Town center and other outlets less than 30 miles away
- Washington-IAD Airport is also within the same distance
- If you ever have an issues with your apartment, it’s very easy to call or place a ticket online and the maintenance team will respond quickly
- A Walking trail is available nearby
- The Elms is nestled in a quiet location of South Riding/Loudon
Along with the many pros, there are some cons of this property to acknowledge:
- Rent prices are rapidly increasing. If you’re on a budget, I’d imagine renters preparing for considerable increases over the next several years, especially with the tech/data centers growing in the area
- Depending on who you get as neighbors, prepare for some noise. We mostly had great neighbors, but did experience at-least 2 noisy neighbors our entire time living here. Luckily, if you put in a complaint, the front office is quick to resolve any issues necessary
- Lastly, I’ve heard the indoor-elevated buildings are not as well kept in comparison to the Garden Style buildings. I’ve heard tenants in that building leaving garbage in the hallways, not cleaning the hallways for weeks on end, etc. etc.
- There were occasional and minor incidents with vermin and small mice (esp. during the winters). Again, nothing that the office and maintenance did not take care of
Overall, 4/5. Thank you, Elms, for all the memories and creating a comfortable living experience! I will truly miss living here.
