Lived there for 5 years. The first 3 were great the 4th year was rough and the 5th became unlivable. We had to break our lease early because we had a roach infestation invade our apartment due to the neighbors directly below us piling up mountains of trash against their front door and the apartment management did nothing to stop them. Those same neighbors would also grill things outside right under our patio to the point where we couldn't use it. And use the backwoods to urinate within plain view of our window. We informed them of the trash & grill problem and they did nothing. It took them 2 months to come in and do anything about the roach infestation. My fiance and I had to go to the store and spend close to $100 on pest control stuff to take care of it ourselves. We were staying up until past midnight with a flyswatter killing the roaches we saw so that they would not get in our bedroom. this went on for weeks. We also went 2 months without a washer as well. We informed them multiple times it was broken and we needed maintenance to come in and repair or replace it. It wasn't until we threatened to put our rent in escrow that the issue was addressed. Turns out the washer was over 20 years old and because my fiance and I moved in during covid, they just didn't bother to inform us of that and give us a newer washer and dryer until we said something. My mother, fiancé and I spent weeks every single day coming back to the apartment after we had moved out to clean. We spent hundreds of dollars in cleaning supplies. Scrubbing the walls, shampooing the carpets pretty much anything you could think of to make the place spotless so we could get our security deposit back. Little did we know they had (against Virginia law) had decided to apply it to our 1 month penalty fee for terminating our lease early. Something we would not have even done if the conditions of our home environment we're livable. For our mental health due to the issues I've explained, we needed to leave as soon as possible. We vacated the apartment in February and they charged us an electricity bill for the month of March when our apartment was empty & we were no longer living or cleaning there. If we had more money, time and energy we would have fought it out in court but due to us buying our first home together my fiancé and I are stretched then. What's penny's to them is unfortunately a huge amount for us. I will personally never live in an apartment again because of what they put us through, I would never wish what we were put through as renters on anyone. There were wasps that would create multiple nest right outside of our front door and on our patio every summer making it to where we were having to run in and out of our door to not get stung and they did nothing about it after being informed of the problem multiple times. I have a horrendous fear of wasps and would spend days crying because I knew I was going to have to run out of my front door to go anywhere and hope I didn't get stung. It was to the point I didn't feel comfortable inviting guests over.

I recently toured this community with my friend as we are looking to move closer to the Richmond area and despite checking previous reviews we gave them a chance and we were impressed. They were able show us the model home but also the apartment that we were interested in. The office ladies were very helpful and seem genuine when talking with them.

Thank you, D. Lewis. Just like you, I am relocating from the North and was checking out this complex. Thank you so much for this post; it clearly highlights the abuse, neglect, and bait-and-switch tactics of online marketing.

Absolutely Disgusted – A Warning to Prospective Renters! My family and I were in a difficult situation, relocating from New Jersey to Virginia with our new house still under construction. Ashton Creek Apartments seemed like a convenient temporary solution, located just up the road from our future home. My sister kindly toured a unit for me via video call, and it appeared perfectly fine. However, this was the beginning of a nightmare. We later discovered that the unit shown was a model unit – a classic bait and switch tactic. The stark contrast between the online presentation and reality is shocking. While the clubhouse and grounds appear meticulously maintained, the actual apartment units are in a severe state of disrepair. The wooden porches and walk-ups are visibly rotting and decaying, a clear sign of neglect. Upon moving in, we were horrified to find our assigned apartment was not only filthy but also a potential biohazard. The floors were covered in dirt and lint, the kitchen cabinets were disgusting, and the bathrooms had crud all over the floors, sinks, and tubs. The refrigerator shelving was broken. To make matters worse, the back deck was covered in animal excrement that had leaked down from the apartment above, creating an unbearable stench. This was clearly a health risk, and I seriously considered contacting the Chesterfield Board of Health. During our walk-through with the supervisor, she readily admitted that the complex had not undergone a full inspection in a long time. This explains why the front of the apartments might look passable, while the rear areas resemble something out of a horror movie. The supervisor offered no argument and promptly refunded some of my money, which only confirmed their awareness of the deplorable conditions. I am still contemplating legal action to recover the remainder of my losses. As I was leaving the complex for good, I spoke with another resident who confirmed my experience, stating that maintenance issues are rampant and incredibly slow to be resolved. He described the process of submitting a maintenance request as a "nightmare." If you have any decent standards for living conditions, I implore you: do not even consider Ashton Creek Apartments. Save yourself the frustration, disgust, and potential health risks.
