Was told that Washington County, VA requires front and back porches at a cost of $3500. Got home and did a search only to find out that porches are optional and all the county requires is steps with a landing. Why do they have to lie? 🤔🫩

I walked into Clayton not knowing how the home buying process worked or even where to start. My goal that day was just to see what Clayton had to offer and get an idea of pricing. Next thing I knew, we found the perfect home that worked for our budget—and Spencer made it happen! At first, the process seemed complicated, but looking back, it was actually pretty straightforward thanks to the Clayton team’s help. We’ve loved our home so far and haven’t had any issues. A special shout-out to Deborah—her knowledge of navigating the city’s permit process was invaluable. Honestly, if it hadn’t been for her expertise, I might have walked away because dealing with the city was a nightmare. She made it manageable, and I’m so grateful. Overall, the team at Clayton of Bristol made the process way easier than I expected—honestly easier than trying to find a rental property. I would definitely consider them again in the future if I ever decide to upgrade to a different home. Lastly, for those considering buying here (especially if you’ve seen the negative reviews): to make the process easier, find a home that truly fits your needs and budget. Have an idea of where you want to place it. Ask every question you can think of and read all of your documentation carefully so you know exactly what you’re doing, what you’re paying for, and what’s covered or not covered. Going in informed makes all the difference.

I lost my house in hurricane Helene and I was between two places to get a house, Loves and Clayton. I went with Clayton because we really liked the house they showed me, but I asked for one request because I had lost everything in Helene. I asked if he could help me with some furniture. He said, ”yeah we should be able to do that”. So we shook hands and went on to discuss the process for the house. I had to put a $1,000 up front so I did. Then I had to pay another $1,000 down and everything was still going ok. So I went to the next step and asked him how long it would take to build the house and he said, “ it should take 2 weeks”. He said, they try to get people in because they understand what it’s like not being able to have a house. They said they try to get people in quickly, but I don’t call 8 months quickly, and I’m still waiting for them to closed it. About 7 months in they finally got the house down here and they built 2 porches and I had to build the last one out of my own money. Then they finally came down about 2 weeks after that to go through the house. We went through the house and the lady took a few pictures immediately that needed to be fixed. Also through the walk through the water wasn’t working and we didn’t know why so she said she would get somebody to come down here to fix it, but I never heard anything from anybody about that anymore. So I went over there first, and told them again about the water and they said I need to talk to the person that sold the house to me, which wasn’t there that day. So I went back home and called about 2 days later to the person that sold me the house and told them about the water and they said they didn’t know anything about it. Then they said let me get off of here and I’ll call you right back, which he did this time. Then I asked him about the tank alarm for the septic system and he said let me get of here and I will try to call you back again, but this time he didn’t call me back. So I went up there about 2 days after that and talked to him and he said the contract didn’t cover it, that I would have to deal with it myself. I mentioned this alarm to him several times, but he said, “oh I don’t remember that “. It was like he suddenly got amnesia over a lot of things then, first it was the tank alarm and then it was the furniture. It was about 3 times I mentioned to him about the furniture to and the last I talked to him about the furniture I told him what I needed; a couch, a kitchen table, a coffee table, and 2 end tables. Then it was never mentioned again, then my mom went over there about it and they told her they didn’t have any furniture. I feel like I got done wrong in so many ways. I had to fix the water by myself, I got stuck with a high bill and no furniture, and I have to fix the tank alarm myself. I put my trust in Clayton and they failed me.
