A very nice place to retire to. Very caring and attentive staff, and the food choices are 5 star offerings.

Just over 2 years ago I walked into Merrill Gardens - Renton, for a tour. And it happened to be on a Saturday morning which is donut-day. My reaction was a combination of happiness and sadness. Happiness at the sight of the residents lined up and teasing the person handing out the donuts (trying to finagle more donuts) and just the playful banter. The residents were engaging, happy, playful, and friendly. (With me too.) The sadness only stemmed from the thought of my mother no longer living independently.
The place was exceptionally clean and not just surface level nor was there any piped in 'smell' to masque anything. You could see and smell the cleanliness. And this was for all areas of the facility - dining, workout room, movie theatre, studio I toured, ...
There are always going to be challenges, in any relationship, and we've had a few over the 2 years. In the scheme of things they were minor. I am giving MG a 5 because every issue I've brought up has been addressed, and done so professionally.
I also want to give a major shout out to the culture Shelley has created - I am always greeted kindly and everyone always asks about my Mom. They know her by name. The front desk team is incredible. The head chef, no matter what her day is like (and I can only imagine) always has a smile and takes time to engage. The staff in the memory care unit have definitely started operating like a team under the new Director; someone is always engaging with the residents, the main living area where they spend most of their time is very clean and organized, and they often move the seating around to create nooks for those who want more solitude and quiet, and then areas to engage as well for projects or tv/movie/music time.
Knowing that mom is well cared for allows me to breathe easier. And it also allows me to be fully present with her when visiting, versus spending time on what I refer to as 'administrative or logistical' issues regarding her care.
All of the above is why I also voted for MG for Best of Renton!
Shirley Thompson the manager is horrible!! She is very confrontational and rude.

After much research on assisted living facilities from Seattle to Bellevue, NewCastle to Kirkland and finally to Renton my siblings and I have placed our mother in a temporary facility while waiting for availability at Merrill Gardens in Renton.
Our mother has been living at MG at Renton for 4 months now and we have no regrets except praise for Shelley, Lilia and their wonderful staff.
The location is not far from the center of Renton yet tucked away on a quiet street. The environment is extremely kempt, spacious, functional, invitingly attractive but most importantly there's a very warm and homely feeling. A resident could take long walks outside for fresh air on the second floor patio all within secured railings and without going outside of their compound.
Their versatile monthly activity list includes something enjoyable for every resident. Each holiday or season would bring special events, i.e., live performances.
There is no set time for meals so residents can choose when to have breakfast, lunch or dinner between 7am - 7pm without having to worry about missing a set scheduled meal time. Their food is made of fresh quality ingredients and there is an abundance of fresh fruits for the residents at all times. The chief chef, Heidi, polls for likes and dislikes from the residents and works hard to prepare and serve palatable meals.
All staff members are well trained on being service oriented so you won't find a a discourteous staff member.
My siblings and I are grateful to the team that runs Merrill Gardens in Renton as we know our mother is in good hands.
Thank you very much.
