highgate used to be such a great apartment complex when i moved here about 4 years ago. there was a concierge, packaging room was nice and upkept, noise level was at a minmum, and the walls were always clean.
now, highgate is far from that and the cost of rent compared to the quality of living is completely unacceptable.
1) the elevator and garage are perpetually broken : the elevator that is in the lobby, the right elevator has been broken CONSTANTLY. if you ask them when it will get fixed, the excuse is always the same "there are no parts, we are waiting on parts" its always parts. If this was covid-19 i would say that would make sense, however, there is no way that one of the most expensive zipcodes in the country can not find an adequate enough maintenance crew to fix the elevator when customers are paying thousands of dollars to live here every single month to live here.additionally the problems gotten so bad that they don’t even provide emails when the garage or elevator is broken….
2) the packaging room is an absolute catastrophe. in your tour, they will share with you how they have a packaging room with lockers, however, more often than not they will drop the packages off in the overflow room (ask to see that). The room gets so packed, that it's almost impossible to find your packages in a timely manner. the excuse for this is usually how they dont control where the amazon drivers put the packages but yet still fails to develop infrastructure to encourage amazon drivers to actually drop them off in a normal manner. Additionally, when the delivery drivers drop the packages off at the front of the complex (because they cant get in) management fails to bring the packages into the complex the next day as well.
3) the gym equipment is atrocious as well. the ceiling is leaking, the faucet is broken (they have since removed it), and the equipment is broken as well. Thousands of dollars to only provide equipment that is worse than most hotel chains out ther .
4) AC was perpetually "broken" on the entirety of the 6th floor during the summer. If you go to the 6th floor, the floors are absolutely muggy and hot. I have talked to the maintenance team and domonique (former manager) because im close with them and they have shared that its been "broken" and they do not have the parts. However, once again (same as the elevator) this is absolutely unacceptable considering the amount that we have to pay to live here....
5) security issues as well : there are also homeless people who come inside as well at nights and they are just sleeping on the couches in the lobby. just to clarify, i have nothing against homeless ppl, but when you have kids walking around in the lobby at night and homeless people are able to bypass security like that, its no longer a whether or not i want them to be there or not but watching out for a kids safety.
6) last but not least, noise. there are children screaming down the hallways riding bicycles and skateboards and then there are also adults who blast rap music on full blast where you can literally hear them 2 stories above you.
the only good thing about this apartment complex is Tamia and francis (i think thats his name, the maintenance guy) who have been great towards the end.

I’ve been living at Highgate for a few months now, and my experience has been great. Tamia helped me secure my apartment and made the entire process smooth and easy.
She is truly one of the best! She always tries her best to accommodate our requests, makes us feel at home, and ensures that we are well taken care of. She is extremely professional, responsive, and handles requests promptly and on a priority basis.
I really appreciate all her help and would highly recommend Tamia to anyone looking to make Highgate their home!
Tamia was excellent from start to finish. True professional, warm and receptive with thorough and succinct communication.
I had some issues with my unit but the management and maintenance teams were great at getting it fixed. Extra props to Tamia for always being super friendly and helpful
My husband and I have lived at the Highgate since March of 2018 and even after 8 1/2 years, couldn't be happier. This is the best location in the DMV with easy access to the beltway, 66, the GW Parkway, Dulles Toll Road, and downtown DC. The apartments in this building are spacious with large windows, lots of light, and upscale window treatments...no flimsy see-through blinds at the Highgate. The building onsite management, maintenance, and cleaning staff are superb. Everyone is friendly, approachable, extremely helpful, and very competent. Problems and concerns are dealt with efficiently and in a timely manner. The community manager, Ezra Mizrachy, is more than willing to work with residents on rent increases and apartment updates so that you feel you're at home, not just in an anonymous rental. Though some services have changed during the years we've lived here, things are always being improved upon with the comfort and lifestyle of residents in mind. Kudos to both Erza and assistant manager, Gabriella Orellana, for making the Highgate a wonderful and inviting community.
