We lived on Harrow Road for about 2.5 years. What brought us here was the rent, lots of families, and gate around the community that we were told would close every night. If you prioritize safety, I encourage you to look someplace else. The crime statistics on Richmond Crime Info speak for themselves. We’ve driven in and out of the complex at various times in the night and the gate has never been closed. Since our time here, there have been multiple car thefts and break-ins into vacant apartments. There was one time when someone in a white van drove around and shot into people’s apartments. What really pushed us to move was our neighbor two doors down being arrested by a swat team early one morning, guns and all. Turns out it was drug-related, but we couldn’t find any more info. Being here for so long, we see those families move in and leave soon after. And then we see their apartments broken into and vandalized. Our direct neighbors also have a high turnover rate. We’ve gotten a few couples that will scream and throw things, and one memorable guy who had knives sticking out of his front window that would tell us whenever he got the chance about crimes he committed, including murder. He told us how easy these apartments were to break into, and he offered to come in and secure ours. We declined. After he left, or maybe during his residency, we saw squatters a few times using that apartment. Other notable issues with this place include a man flashing himself and urinating near the school bus that drops kids off in our complex in the afternoon, the heaps of trash that never seem to make it in the dumpster near the leasing office, the potholes that are filled maybe twice a year (if I’m being generous) that seem to stay filled for a week before becoming potholes again, cockroaches regardless how often pest control comes around, and our A/C and laundry machines that never seemed to properly work after multiple maintenance requests. And the cherry on top was two weeks before we moved, my car was stolen early one morning when it was parked in the complex. Police are still looking for it. A few days ago, I got a note from my neighbor that her car was stolen as well. Don’t be foolish like us and try to look past these issues and hope it’ll be better, because it’s just gotten worse over the years. We’re moving to a new place that has very similar rent, seems to be a much nicer community, and has exceptionally better crime statistics. I don’t know if other areas of the complex are the same way, but I would suggest avoiding St. John’s altogether, or at the very least, avoid living on Harrow Road. If you must live here for any reason, invest in an alarm system, wooden dowels for the windows and sliding door, a car anti-theft device (especially if you have a Kia or Hyundai), and a portable A/C unit or two (our apartment has gotten into the 80s during the summer). If you can, ask to tour the apartment early to send in any maintenance requests before moving in, as you will probably have to request maintenance multiple times in the beginning and it’ll be good to get a head start. I wish anyone looking for your next home the best of luck.

I first signed a six month lease, everything was fine. I had no complaints except for one. I placed an emergency maintenance request Sunday night due to major water leak from upstairs laundry room to the downstairs hVAC closet. I got a phone call Monday, I let them know of the concern of water pooled downstairs but we found the source, no one ever showed up. I'm on my 14 month lease here and theres been I significant change in things that concern me. Such as TRASH, we pay for Valet trash (M-F and supposedly on holidays as well) theres been weeks where my trash has been skipped or they only take 1 bag causing me later to have 2-3 bags. I've called the office and left voice mails, never receiving a response. This is a big deal because we have stray & collared cats rammaging through our trash. The neighborhood has 2 trash compactor for residents as well however since move in both have been well packed and trash surrounds both very large units ALWAYS leading me to believe they have never been dumped. The second incident, I went to the leasing office to purchase a park pass. (Which most places allows) Aaron acted dumb as if he didnt know what language I was speaking and when I tried to explain he yelled that we only get two a month... there was potential new residents sitting in front of him so I walked away. I dont have visitors at all to keep a designated park pass spot in my home so they were misplaced, this was a rare occasion I needed a pass. The next incident is fairly recent, I received a violation for patio furniture and a picture of my car cover under the overhang. I removed the car cover as it doesn't look neat to me neither, but it was temporary for everyday use just about. The next week I received another violation stating "Remove all patio furniture" mind you, I dont own any patio furniture. The only thing outside is a bike thats been there since the first day I moved in September 2025. My husband and I both have called several times to ask questions about the violations, no one has answered or response to voicemails which has now led to this post. A BIG RED FLAG for us should have been the emails about car vandalism prior to us moving in, this is a gated community where they keep the gates open 24/7. After 6pm only 1 of the two front gates close.
