**⭐ If I can give less than one star I would — A Homebuyer's Nightmare: Defective Home, Endless Delays, and Lack of Accountability**
I am sharing my experience with Clayton Homes in Ashland, Virginia, to warn prospective buyers about the serious problems I have encountered throughout my homebuying and installation process.
What was supposed to be an exciting milestone for my family has turned into months of frustration, financial hardship, and disappointment.
I purchased a brand-new manufactured home from Clayton Homes (Dec 2025), expecting professional installation, quality workmanship, and compliance with applicable building codes. Instead, my experience has been plagued by serious construction deficiencies, delays, and what I believe has been an unacceptable lack of accountability.
**Here are just some of the problems we have encountered:**
- **Defective foundation installation:** The original foundation work raised serious concerns and required corrective work. Subsequent inspection and compliance issues resulted in a county halting any additional work.
- **Structural damage:** During installation, a structural beam was damaged, and the home developed noticeable flooring and leveling problems before we ever occupied it.
- **Independent engineering findings:** A licensed professional engineer I hired documented structural deficiencies, foundation concerns, and other construction issues.
- **Repeated delays:** Despite Clayton representatives inspecting the property and acknowledging concerns, we have continued waiting for their engineering findings, proposed solutions, and meaningful progress.
- **Financial hardship:** These delays have resulted in additional financing expenses, engineering costs, storage expenses, and other financial burdens while we remain unable to move into the home.
Perhaps most disappointing is that these issues occurred **before we ever moved into our supposedly brand-new home.**
After months of delays, numerous communications, inspections, and the involvement of legal counsel, we are still waiting for an acceptable resolution.
I believe customers purchasing a new home deserve transparency, competent workmanship, timely communication, and accountability when things go wrong.
**My advice to prospective buyers: Do your homework. Hire your own independent inspector and structural engineer, document everything, and do not assume that a brand-new home has been properly installed simply because the dealer tells you so.**
I am sharing this experience because no family should have to go through what ours has endured simply to receive the safe, properly installed home they paid for.
**We bought a dream. Clayton Homes delivered a nightmare.**
I sincerely hope Clayton Homes takes responsibility and resolves these issues fairly. Until then, I cannot recommend this dealership based on my experience.
