  I’ve really enjoyed living at Manor House. The location is wonderful, the community is quiet and pleasant, and the management team is always friendly and helpful. I especially appreciate how responsive they are whenever I have a question or need assistance. I’m very happy to call Manor House home and would gladly recommend it to others.

  We had a very unfortunate experience at Manor House apartments. There were a number of issues that we had shortly after moving in (range hood not working, unsecured electrical outlets, leaking sink, large hole where drains entered walls). These were all fixed within a week however and the management was very responsive to get these addressed. The issue however that caused us to move out within a month however was roaches. Upon moving in, I noticed a few dead roaches in the utility closet and kitchen area which I figured were just some random bugs that died due to the recent pest treatment at the apartment. However, the very next day I saw a very large American cochroach on the wall during the middle of the day. The next night, woke up to one in the hall. Over the next few weeks, we had multiple instances of dead and live roaches turning up in the apartment. We had to escalate the issue with higher management before they agreed to release us from the lease since we just did not want to stay in the apartment any longer. All in all, the whole episode cost us about a month of rent, moving costs, and a huge hassle moving out and finding another place to stay. From what I understand our experience was not common, and the property manager blamed sewer work by the city close to the property. The pest company technician said they were coming from the bushes adjacent to the property however (we had a ground floor apartment).

  We lived at Manor House apartments for about 4.5 years, and overall it was a positive experience. Here are some pros and cons: Pros: • No hidden fees or charges. There was a credit check fee and a minimal application fee and that was it; management was very up-front about charges and rent raises over the years were very reasonable. • Reasonably priced rent for the location, size of the apartments, parking (which is included), and neighborhood. • Maintenance is responsive and easy to contact, even on weekends. We never had a problem that couldn’t be resolved within a day. • Renovated kitchen was very nice. • Safe and quiet neighborhood, close to restaurants, library, and grocery. Everything you need to make life work is within walking distance. • Parking is included, and there is ample street parking if you can’t get in the lot. • Capital Bikeshare location is right outside the building, the nearby streets are bike friendly, and the building is within several running/walking paths. Cons: • No amenities (this was not a concern for us, but it might be for you) beyond free parking. • The building is older, which means noise may be an issue in some units. Our first two years there, we had no issue with noise from neighbors; the last two years, our neighbors were much noisier, which became a problem. It will depend on the unit you are in and how much carpeting/padding your upstairs neighbors put down. Other neighbors didn’t have this same issue, so it really depends. Manor House has rules about covering floors with carpeting to try to minimize these issues. • Cell phone service is spotty, but again, this may depend on the unit (we were on the ground floor). Overall, we were happy there and would definitely recommend the building, especially for someone moving to the DC area from out of town. We moved because we were just ready for a change of location.

  My girlfriend and I have lived at Manor House for the past year and couldn't ask for more. We moved from out of town and after a hectic move we found our home. From the moment we were shown available spaces we knew we wanted to live here. We were greeted with a "welcome home" by the maintenance workers before we even signed. The staff is very helpful, any time we had a question or concern we got almost immediate responses and solutions. The apartment is very unique, unlike many of the hotel looking spaces that we toured before looking at Manor House. One big difference I also see are the people that live here. The first day we were unloading the moving truck and someone that lived in the building decided to help us move instead of going for a run, you don't see that a lot. Everyone in the building has been amazing and its surprisingly quiet all the time. Overall, if you are looking for a place in the Alexandria/Del Rey area, this is a no brainer. Walking distance to the metro, walking distance to Del Rey as well as Old Town Alexandria. Unfortunately we have to leave this gem as we have to move out of state. If we ever return, we will contact Manor House.
