Living on the first floor of Unite already has issues with being woken by the trash truck at 5:30 am in the morning. The trash truck is sticking up, and on top of that, there are two massive, bright white flood walkway lights that are placed perfectly in front of both of our windows and shine brightly into our room. There is nothing we can really do because when we do try to put tin foil around it or tape it back, for instance, they remove it.
It really does cause disruption to our sleep, and their only recommendation is to get blackout curtains, which run $100. Paying almost $1,500 to $1,600 a month in rent, I feel like our quality of sleep should be better for the price point. We have contacted management multiple times, and they said they completed the maintenance request when all they did was actually remove the stuff that was helping reduce the intensity of the light. For example, in this case, it was a paper bag, and we got a notification saying it was complete when they just removed it. Now we sleep like shit again, and I wouldn't live on the first floor, and I wouldn't live here. They just don't really care about the quality of life of their residents, and they do give a reason why they can't get to all the maintenance requests, and that reason, I find, is really stupid because they're doing a name change. Why should a name change be of higher priority than helping the residents that actually live in the building?

I asked for them to help mitigate the light that floods into my room from one of their walkway lights and I would put a paper bag over it to help with the bright white led light disrupting my sleep and I got a notification that my maintenance request was complete but when I went to check what they did and they just took the paper bag off which I find ironic because it makes my sleep worse now.

Management was not great, I would often have to call multiple times in a row whenever I needed to get ahold of them. Rent here was also ridiculous, and without me trying to resign a lease, the office called me stating I had signed things to renew my lease. Upon checking my portal I never infact signed anything. Safety was not the best, we had incidents of bikes being stolen from INSIDE the LOCKED bike room. Had people propping open the entrance doors, this included both residents and non residents. Did not feel safe walking in at night. Had to rely on my phone as a key for everything and sometimes the app wouldnt either load or my phone would be dead. Halfway through my lease, they had changed our digital keys, and I was visiting my dad out of town and upon my return, nobody was home except one of my roommates that weekend and thank god because the only reason i got home was from pounding the door. There were often inspections which honestly i had more freedoms living in the dorms my freshman year.
Dear parents,
Don’t have your student live here. The management is shockingly dishonest, there is no parking (which I guess is fine if you don’t mind your kid walking through downtown in the middle of the night because they have to park 2 blocks away), many times my student and roommates felt unsafe, daily/nightly tow trucks are ready to pounce on an unsuspecting resident just trying to run groceries in the house, the ac nor heat worked in my kids apartment (don’t worry, it was “fixed”) and on the very last night before moving out, we literally spent hours scrubbing the apt from top to bottom on hands and knees with roommates and another parent every single detail and still received a load of “fines” for not cleaning properly. Infuriating doesnt describe it, especially after feeling bamboozled by the entire experience of living there. RUN, don’t walk away. Disgusted by this place and overall experience.
Jaxyn in the leasing office is always super nice!
