Ive lived here about 3 months now, I shouldve walked away when they were difficult in the application process. Issues verifying my rental history (last apartment updated systems, but South Gate had my current address I was renting from when I applied) they offered "it's just an extra $200 deposit for first time renters" I wasn't okay with paying an extra fee since I wasn't a first time renter. Multiple phone calls requesting the refundable portion of the application fee back when suddenly they could verify the current rental history. I hoped that would have been the only bump in the road. Move in day, the baseboards were chipped/broken all around the apartment (I did take pictures and fill out the form about move in conditions so fingers crossed I'll get my deposit back). There was also an ant problem, they were coming in through the bedroom window. It took a couple days for maintenance to fix that. The thermostat was also broken, which that was fixed same day. Last week caused more headaches, I received multiple emails about power washing breezeways and repainting stairwells. It should've been a nice upgrade, but what actually happened was they power washed the old paint off the railings only, leaving the old paint chips everywhere which weren't cleaned or anything else washed off in a week. Today I took my dog out to find puddles of paint poured into the grass near the dog waste trash can- so clearly a space it's obvious pets are walked- I finally emailed the office to see if there were any plans to clean the mess up. I was assured the paint chips would be cleaned tomorrow (I figure they'd still be there in a month if I hadn't reached out) but that the paint puddles "should be dry because of the sun" .... Seriously? I paid a $600 pet deposit and pay monthly pet rent, I do expect a clean and safe environment to walk said pet. Add in the rent is over $1000 a month for a one bedroom- you would think they'd want the property to look decent to back up those prices or at least would use that money to hire decent contractors. If management cared enough to check up on the work that was being done maybe they would've spotted these issues vs. waiting for a complaint. It's going to be a long 9 months to finish my lease. I'd look at every other option available in town before you look here.

My fiancé and I lived here for a year and I would never recommend anyone living here. Since the first day we moved in, we had to install our own showerhead and shower knob because they Never put it on. There is also lots of bug issues like ants coming in through the windows and just bugs getting inside. The kitchen stove is so old and does not work properly. We used one of the stove tops when we first moved in and it caught fire. A lot of the plug outlets In the living room, do not work And we asked them to come fix it, and they only fixed one out of Four. Our back door to the balcony Is messed up if you don’t lock the door, it will open. We noticed when we moved in the mirror is coming off the wall in the bathroom and it looks like someone punched the light switches in the bathroom and they just painted Over the crack around it. Another issue We have is we feel like we have no privacy. They’re always wanting to come to your apartment at least once a week if not more and it’s very irritating. The ceiling in the bathroom started to leak and we asked them to come fix it and all they did was put a pan in there and spray paint over the brown spot in the ceiling where the water was dripping from. And there’s a little pipe that comes out of the ceiling over the bathtub. now the water drips from there and they say that it’s normal so now it’s just constant water dripping in your bathtub. They also like to do yard work at 9AM on Saturdays. So if your planning on sleeping in after working all week well you won’t be doing that here. Don’t recommend living here there’s so many other nicer apartments you can get for the same price.

The apartments themselves are good and the maintenance was always quick. We’ve rented here twice now and both times didn’t receive our deposit back. The first time we were charged for them having to wipe out the microwave & a heavy carpet clean, & this time around we were charged $87 for a “heavy carpet clean”. We never had any pets, we have a toddler & had a newborn living in the apartment with us, but never allowed food in the kids rooms and we were hardly ever home due to lack of space. We never had any spills on the carpets. We used command strips only the first time we rented but since we didn’t get our deposit back the first time we used some nails & screws so that things weren’t falling off the wall. I’m confused as to why we even needed a heavy carpet clean but fighting with them is pointless because I find that they look for every excuse to keep money (even if it’s unfair). I would go into these apartments expecting for them to find every reason to keep your deposit. They just seem very money hungry, which doesn’t surprise me.
Had they not been so greedy, I’d give them 5 stars.

I’d give zero if I could. I lived at Southgateglen since 2023. Moved out when I got pregnant. My due date was the same day as my move out date. They were pressuring me to give them my keys earlier and when I asked them “how will I get in my house in the mean time? I’m not paying to live here while yall are trying to take my keys early just cause I’m pregnant”. I thought that was super inappropriate considering I was looking for a house to move into while I still had time to move before my lease was up. Now that I’ve left they are charging me $700. BE AWARE! the office staff sucks! Anything and I mean anything that could be wrong write it on the paper work they give you! I’m being charged for things that were messed up before I moved in. And they say the carpet last 5 years. Well I lived there for a little over 3 years with no pets! And I vacuumed regularly. They are charging me for new carpet as well. Insane.

I have lived here for seven years. This property is well maintained with beautiful landscaping in my area. Maintenance issues are handled quickly, with Manny and Obed taking care to do a great job. Kristie, Ori, and Mae are always professional and friendly. There are monthly activities that involve residents, which makes it fun to live here!
