UPDATE: We've now been in our home over a year. We did have a few small issues and a defective window that needed replaced within our warranty period. Clayton took care of these issues and we're still very pleased with both our home and the service provided by Clayton Homes Victoria.
Previous review: We moved in to our Clayton home 3 1/2 weeks ago. So far, we have been very pleased with the entire process considering we were all dealing with issues related to COVID-19 and record rainfall in our area this past spring and summer. Due to these issues, it was impossible for everything to go perfectly, but we never felt Clayton Homes Victoria was at fault for any of the bumps along the way. I will say that our 5 star review is largely due to two individuals at Clayton Homes Victoria - Stephanie in sales and Miguel their general contractor.
Stephanie was there for us during the entire process. She was friendly, communicative, and knowledgeable. If she didn't know the answer to any of our questions, she found it. She never made us feel that we were pestering her or that any of our questions were insignificant. And did I mention that she's one of the kindest ladies I've ever met?
Miguel is their go-to guy that came out to set the home up and make it ready for us to move into. He also handled any follow-up issues as we reported them. You can tell that he really takes pride in his work and does his best to make the customer happy. Some days, he and his crew of one worked well into the night time hours to get the job done. We are still working on a few issues, but we do not feel like we have been put on a back burner. As soon as parts arrive, they have been prompt about returning to make the requested repairs. I will update this review if our opinion on this changes. Note that since we have only lived in the home a few weeks, this review is primarily based on customer service. So far we are overall pleased with the home, but there are a few, hopefully minor, issues that Clayton has committed to taking care of.
Here's a little inside info for those considering a first time purchase. I realize that everyone's experience will not be the same. Here' s our process timeline:
- Feb 10, 2021 Put 5% down to initiate our purchase order for the home. (Note: our home is 1800 sq ft double wide.
- Over the next several weeks, we received and sent paperwork back and forth with several lenders before one was decided on.
- Once we decided on a lender (Credit Human) we had to continuing submitting pay stubs and proof of employment. (This continued even after we signed the loan, put down our down payment, and continued until the home was delivered.)
- Our property is on acreage. We worked on getting water and electricity to the property.
- Had to wait for AEP to install a transformer.
- May 12, 2021 our home was finally delivered to Clayton's lot in Victoria.
- May 26, 2021 we were able to sign final paperwork and make the down payment.
- June 24, 2021 the home was delivered to our property. (Delay was caused from abundance of rain and unpassable roads.)
- Still waiting on AEP for transformer
- July 1, 2021 Miguel arrived and worked several days prepping the home and getting all he could without electricity.
- Aug 16, 2021 Finally had transformer installed
- Aug 27, 2021 AC installed
- Aug 27-Aug 31 Miguel's crew finished up all pre-move-in tasks and a small list of touch-ups we requested.
- Sep 2 Home was cleaned (ehhh...You'll want to do your own cleaning.)
- Sep 2 We were finally given the home tour and keys to the home.
Please note that the biggest delay was waiting 4 months for AEP to install our transformer. Heavy rains also caused several delays.
