If you know me, you know that I focus on positivity, healing, growth, and expansion, so it pains me to post this as a review on Google and on my social media sites... But due to being treated poorly by a management company, I think it is important to report this on my feed due to their lack of response and unethical behavior in order to help anyone else who may be considering using them.
This is a complaint made with the Better Business Bureau, with documented evidence supplied per conversations with Christian Hallmark and Andy Hildago.
"My husband and I leased with Emerson Property Management for one year beginning in the spring of 2024. We extended the lease to 4/30/2026.
In January of 2026, I sent a letter of non-renewal (more than 60-day requirement) to notify them that we were not going to renew the lease. It took several emails and phone calls to get them on the phone to agree that the written non-renewal lease had been received. We moved mid-March of 2026, knowing that we would be responsible for April's rent.
Since we had moved early, I agreed that they could have access to the property to prepare for the next tenants. On April 6th, I went to check the property and found that the locks had been changed and I no longer had access to the property. After numerous emails and phone calls, I finally reached Christian Hallmark, and he confirmed that we would no longer be responsible for the property or associated costs. We had an excess amount in our account with them ($319.72) as of 4/1/2026, and they charged us for rent despite the conversations and emails. Christian did refund the rent payment, but not the $319.72, with the excuse of finalizing all charges (for what, I'm unsure because he never verified what the extra utility charges would be despite the many emails and phone calls).
I have been removed from portal access (where the information regarding charges was being monitored), and it is now July 22nd, well beyond the end of our lease on April 30th. In addition, I received an email from them in May stating I would receive a full refund. Experience has shown they do not respond unless they are being threatened with legal action.
My last email was July 9th, and I've still NOT received a response regarding a refund of the money that is owed. I would like a breakdown of any charges, reasoning for the charges (utility costs were NOT agreed to), a refund of $319.72, and a security deposit of $1,795.00 as paid per the lease."
