I am extremely disappointed with the way Crystal, the property manager, handled my call regarding a serious matter involving potential identity theft and my personal information. I am a former resident and recently became aware of an issue involving my personal information that required me to contact both the property and corporate management. I spoke directly with Crystal and asked for her email address so I could include onsite management on the written correspondence I had already sent to corporate. Crystal told me no and refused to provide her email address. Her reasoning was essentially that because this was a “police matter,” she did not want to provide it. That response made absolutely no sense. The fact that a matter may also require a police report does not eliminate the need to communicate with the business involved. I wasn’t asking Crystal to conduct a criminal investigation, determine who was responsible, or disclose another resident’s confidential information. I was asking for an appropriate way to document the issue in writing with property management and ensure management received the same correspondence being provided to corporate. Even if Crystal did not want to provide her individual email address, as the property manager, she could have provided a general property email address, a corporate contact, or some other method for submitting written documentation. Instead, the response was simply no. Meanwhile, I have had no issue appropriately reporting the matter to the relevant companies, corporate management, and identity-theft authorities while also preparing to file a police report. These things are not mutually exclusive. Filing a police report does not mean a business suddenly has no reason to receive or respond to documentation concerning an issue involving that business. Thankfully, I located corporate management myself and have documented my communications with them. But having the property manager use “this is a police matter” as a reason not to even provide an avenue for written communication was dismissive, unhelpful, and incredibly unprofessional. When someone contacts your property regarding a serious concern involving their personal information, the bare minimum is to provide an appropriate avenue for documentation and direct them to the proper person — not simply say “no” and attempt to pass the entire issue off as a police matter. Extremely disappointing response from management.
