Our stay at the Pennsylvanian Hotel in Pittsburgh was absolutely exceptional from beginning to end. The hotel is beautiful, full of historic charm, and impeccably maintained. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and made us feel right at home.
What truly made our experience unforgettable was the outstanding hospitality. A very special thank you to Tarish and Casse, who went above and beyond to accommodate us. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine care made us feel like valued guests from the moment we arrived. They handled every request with a smile and ensured our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
It’s rare to find service this exceptional, and it’s because of team members like Tarish and Casse that we will absolutely be returning. We highly recommend the Pennsylvanian Hotel to anyone visiting Pittsburgh. Thank you for making our trip so memorable!
Placemakr improperly is holding my security deposit after moving out two months ago. In person follow ups and writing the property management has resulted in no progress. Update 7/10/ 26: Reached out to email provided below. Will update Google rating depending when resolved.

If you're considering renting at The Pennsylvanian, please read this before signing anything with Placemakr.
This building used to be a genuinely nice place to live under the former management company. Once Placemakr took over, it became a full-time job just to protect yourself from their mismanagement.
One of the most frustrating experiences was with utility billing. Before signing my renewal I asked Placemakr directly and in writing whether anything about my billing would change, they confirmed it would not and that there would be no additional charges. They then proceeded to overcharge me for roughly 10 months, in direct contradiction of both the lease and their own written confirmation. When I disputed it, every staff member I reached gave me a different explanation, none of which aligned with the actual lease. At one point a staff member told me in person that another staff member didn't understand the lease, and that other person happened to be their own lease expert, who had been providing incorrect information in writing. I had to send them highlighted sections of my own lease just to have a basic conversation about what I had signed. It took 10 months of follow-up, escalating through multiple managers, and watching them shift blame at every turn before the overcharging was finally acknowledged. I have roughly 60 pages of documented emails just to get this resolved. Even then, some of the credit confirmed in writing by one of their managers was never actually applied, and is now being chased by a debt collector.
That's how my tenancy ended: a collections call over money their own director confirmed I didn't owe, and a security deposit withheld with no itemization or explanation of what the claimed damages were, which is required under Pennsylvania law.
This wasn't one bad experience. It was the pattern. Five general managers changed in roughly a year. Staff regularly provided information in writing that directly contradicted the lease. Two staff members once contradicted each other in front of me about what the lease allowed and what their own policy was. I got used to highlighting lease clauses and emailing them back just to have a basic conversation.
The building itself suffered too. Under the former management company, water and sewage bills ran around $80–90 a month (in summer). Under Placemakr they jumped to $120–140 for the same period. When residents pushed back and provided comparable data from a similarly hot season under the previous management, Placemakr's response was essentially to blame the weather and move on. Heat was turned off multiple times with little or no notice , in one case we went days without heat before they did anything, and only after we followed up. For about six months, refrigerators and other large appliances were stored in the hallways of our floor. Common areas were sometimes left with tools, construction equipment, missing ceiling panels, and materials in resident-accessible areas, which felt unsafe. This is the luxury building they advertise.
I also know of residents who saw rent increases in the 20-30% range under Placemakr. In my own case, the last renewal offer they gave me was about 30% higher than the prior year. When I went through a personal hardship and asked if I could vacate one month early, they initially wanted me to pay a two-month penalty, meaning I would have paid for 13 months to leave one month early at 11 months. It took multiple office visits and weeks of conflicting information from different staff before one manager finally allowed it. What should have been a straightforward, human conversation took more effort than anything should.
Do not rent here. The incompetence isn't occasional, it's built into how they operate. You will spend your tenancy chasing them down, correcting their mistakes, and trying to hold them to a lease they haven't read.

Update: The owner's response asks me to email them so they can "review everything in detail." They have the communications and 14+ months of documentation. This response is the pattern

Wonderful team here working at the Pennsylvanian. Nicole, the leasing agent is wonderful. She is warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Jordan at the front desk is also super welcoming and accommodating. Apartments are beautiful, rates are great, valet parking is awesome… what a wonderful experience here at this iconic, historic property and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking to live in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh!
I don’t usually leave reviews but my experience living in the Pennsylvanian has prompted me to…
The building itself is quite nice. Located downtown, it is surrounded by constant events, activities, restaurants. It is in a convenient location for those who are always looking for something to do. The apartments themselves are quite spacious and modern.
However, the management here is something else.
If you have a car, your only option is paying an absurd amount every month for valet service that is far from convenient. Sometimes it takes multiple calls just for someone to pick up. You will find random scratches on your car. Bird poop all over. They’ll even bring you the wrong car, which doesn’t make sense when they ask for the make, model, and assigned number your car is given when you call.
Maintenance will take forever. You will have to contact them multiple times for some sort of update. Then one day, you’ll enter your apartment and find someone has entered while you were gone with NO notice to address the maintenance issue.
The way they handle mail and packages is so unorganized. You have to go down to the front desk in order to pick up your packages and they are never pleased to help you. The only other option is to pay for a parcel locker. Maybe make it free if you don’t want people bothering you for their packages? There have been instances where my packages were never found. They just put all your packages along with everyone else’s in one room when they receive them.
The list goes on and on. Would not recommend living here
