  I was so excited about living here - but in the 8 weeks I’ve lived here, the AC has been out for long stretches at least three times with extremely poor communication from the building on when they would be repaired and no offers of fans or other cooling devices. Requests were ignored while apartments creeped into the high 80s and 90s. Now, there is a planned 8 day outage (so they can fix the issue!!!) during a heat advisory. We were told we’d get AC units…with no communication on when or how. After causing a huge fuss as my apartment creeped up to 86 degrees, I was given one small AC unit for my entire apartment. Those high ceilings? Those big windows? That AC unit didn’t stand a chance. Management is aware that the apartment has been an unsafe 85-91 degrees. I have done everything possible to make this work on my side. I bought my own extra fans (but those just started blowing hot air.) All of the blinds have been closed. I put cardboard against the glass to block out the sun. I put in multiple emails and service requests about it being unsafe and requesting support, and was alerted that air conditioning is considered an amenity and per my lease they have the right to remove amenities at any time with no compensation or support to me. Eventually I felt dizzy and my cat was hyperventilating so I had to abandon my unit. My cat continued to pant and drool for an hour after leaving - I was taking her to an emergency vet when she finally started to recover. Another resident noted that the bulletin board was taken down. Yup. First they started deleting any message related to the AC outages, then they just took down the bulletin board altogether. Do NOT rent here, they literally do not care if we live or die. $1600+ for a unit (plus hundreds in electric in water) just to need to stay at a hotel? You can do way better, I promise. + Special mention to how the parking garage doors are also often broken, so they leave them open allowing literally anyone off the street to wander in. Community member having a mental health crisis? Stalker ex? Everyone’s invited to wander into the garage, apartment halls, and communal spaces here! + Follow up shout out to it being a search party to find any package delivery. The office is so far from the delivery door, and they don’t respond to the call box (if the call box even works???) so delivery drivers abandon boxes at any possible exit.

  Everything you’ve read about the AC issues is true. As temperatures climbed back into the 90s, residents have been forced to leave their apartments just so their pets can safely make it through the heat. Residents who rely on temperature-sensitive medications are also left without a safe way to properly store them, potentially affecting their safety or effectiveness. Meanwhile, building management has provided little to no communication. This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s impacting people’s health, their pets, and their ability to safely live in their own homes. Until this is actually resolved, I’d strongly recommend staying far away from this building.

  I will preface this by saying that the ladies who work in the rental office are WONDERFUL, and the welcoming environment did influence my decision to rent here. The apartments themselves seemed nice and, at first, maintenance was also really responsive. Unfortunately, it's now apparent that the property owner is severely mismanaging the building, and renting here was a mistake. I have to STRONGLY advise anyone considering renting here against it. Since the HVAC system was activated at the beginning of May, the AC has been out building wide at least 3 times for extended periods. The temperature in my apartment has been ranging from 88-94. I totally understand that things break and need repairs, but this is clearly a frequent, ongoing issue. The worst part is, I just noticed that the bulletin residents use to communicate has now been CONVENIENTLY deleted, as people were discussing the AC issue..which is what led me to google reviews :) If you have the nerve to remove a tool intended for residents to support each other as issues arise, I'm going to find another medium, and I'm going to tell on you! Finally, an honorable mention to many of the dog owners in the building, who leave their pet's mess all over the halls with no regard for the communal space. It's so gross. I'm extremely disappointed, as I had such high hopes for this apartment when I moved here in January. But, ignoring complaints, lack of timely repairs, old, decrepit systems, exorbitant rent prices...there's a word for 'land'lords like that. Learn from my mistake, rent elsewhere.

  Everything you read about the faulty HVAC units is true. Temperatures just hit 90 again and residents are having to flee to hotels so their pets can survive the summer. Some residents were offered wall units, and others weren’t. With no end to the high temperatures in sight, and no information from building management about repairs, I would stay far away from this building.

  Here’s my honest thoughts on the Residences at South High: Building is beautiful and has a lot of historic character. I really liked the uniqueness of my layout and unit was nice. I noticed management and maintenance really care about the building and put a lot of work in. I knew going into it I had concerns about the surrounding area but it was actually very nice and never had problems, as the building is very secure. Overall, I would recommend the Residences, if you like old building charm and what comes along with that.
