I lived at the Cosmopolitan from July 2024 until September 2026. My first year was a great experience, but unfortunately, I completely regret renewing my lease for a second year.
The biggest change was the switch in management. During my first year, I never had an issue paying rent because the Flex option was available and very easy to use. After the management change, that option was suddenly removed, which created a lot of issues for me. While the new management was somewhat flexible with my situation, I ultimately ended up paying a late fee every month during my second year. The entire process was extremely frustrating and was never an issue during my first year.
Noise was another major problem during my second year. At some point, someone moved into the apartment above me, and I could constantly hear stomping at all hours of the day. Since I work from home, this was incredibly disruptive. When I brought the issue to management, their recommendation was to get the police involved. I felt that was an inappropriate way to handle a resident’s noise complaint, but I ultimately felt like I had no other option.
I also had a neighbor next to me who would blast the same song between 6–8 AM almost every morning. I would have to bang on the walls just to get them to turn it down. There was also a family on the fourth floor who regularly allowed their children to run through the hallway, creating an excessive amount of noise.
Maintenance was another disappointment. My microwave broke, and I was without one for months. When it was finally replaced, no one notified me that maintenance would be entering my apartment, leaving me completely unprepared. Residents should receive proper notice before maintenance enters their unit, so this was especially frustrating.
The trash chute and elevators also seemed to be constantly broken. During my final three days in the building, the trash chute was down, which made moving out significantly more difficult and time-consuming than it needed to be.
The one consistent positive throughout my experience was the leasing staff, both the previous and current leasing agents. They have always been friendly and have genuinely tried to help whenever they could. My impression is that they are simply limited by what they are able to do under management.
Overall, this was honestly the worst apartment-renting experience I have had in Pittsburgh. For the price, I believe there are much better options in the area. The amenities were disappointing, and I rarely used them. Calling this “luxury living” feels misleading based on my experience.
I have already found another apartment in the area with better amenities, including a beautiful pool, for significantly less rent. If you’re considering renting at the Cosmopolitan, I would strongly recommend comparing your options before signing a lease. My first year was great, but my second year was a completely different experience, and I wish I had chosen not to renew.
