I am extremely disappointed with my experience opening a PNC Business Checking account. I opened the account because a bank employee informed me that I qualified for a $400 new account promotion. During the application process, I specifically confirmed that everything had been completed correctly and was assured that all requirements had been taken care of. I was never told that I needed to keep any special promotional code or additional documentation. After waiting more than six months and repeatedly following up, I still did not receive the promised bonus. When I contacted the bank again, I was eventually told that no promotional code had been attached to my application and was asked whether I had a copy of the code. This was the first time anyone mentioned such a requirement. Had I been informed of this at the time of account opening, I would have saved screenshots and documentation. Instead, I relied on the information provided by the bank employee and trusted that the account had been opened correctly. What concerns me is that bank employees are often evaluated based on account-opening goals and sales targets. As a customer, it is difficult not to question whether the focus was on opening a new account rather than ensuring that all promotional requirements were properly documented and processed. Regardless of the reason, customers should not have to spend months trying to resolve an issue that could have been avoided at the time the account was opened. The issue is not simply the $400. The larger issue is being told one thing when opening the account and something completely different months later. My advice to anyone considering a promotional banking offer is to save every screenshot, email, promotional code, and document, even if a bank employee tells you everything has been completed correctly. Based on my experience, the process was frustrating, time-consuming, and disappointing. I hope PNC improves its training, accountability, and communication so that future customers do not encounter the same situation. * What made this experience particularly disappointing was that the proposed solution seemed to be for me to simply keep the account open despite not receiving the promised bonus. I had maintained roughly $2,000 in the account for months, and it felt as though PNC wanted the benefit of retaining my deposits while avoiding responsibility for the promotional incentive that was advertised and discussed when the account was opened. As a customer, that did not feel like a fair or good-faith resolution. How much interest did they make from me and others?
