First of all, there are serious security concerns regarding the Door app. I had access to another resident’s unit for months and despite telling Joy this on several occasions, she never took away my access from that unit. Luckily for Dulce R in apartment 431 (omitting the full last name I actually care about people's safety), I’m not a dangerous person. Thankfully neither are any friends/family members/pet sitters I gave Door access to—they have access to unit 431 as well and they don’t even live in the building! It’s really concerning that anyone could randomly have access to another resident’s apartment and the leasing manager doesn’t care! Aside from that, I was one of the residents displaced by flooding in a neighboring unit. The leasing office was totally incompetent during the entire process and I had to comfort Joy while she was explaining to me what was happening to my unit because she was so overwhelmed by the whole situation. They told me I had to move out but would get me another unit and would provide movers for me and the other displaced residents. Then I got an invoice/quote for $10,000 which thankfully came before the move so I was able to question it, at which point they said they weren’t sure who would be responsible for that cost and put the move on hold. The displaced residents ended up doing their own moves. I let Joy know what day I would be fully out of my original unit and then three days before I was out, the renovation team barged in, said “oh Joy said this unit was unoccupied, we’re here to turn off the water” and then I didn’t have water in my kitchen for the last three days I lived in that unit. This is not legal, by the way. The temporary unit they moved me into was hastily prepared for my arrival--scuffs on the wall, chipped paint in the kitchen, moldy rags in the washing machine. I let it go, just happy to have a break for a bit. After all of this they offered me a measly $500 rent concession. The construction took so long they eventually just offered to let me stay in the temporary unit for good which I was fine with at that point because the whole thing was so exhausting and I didn’t want to have to move again without help. And I really just decided to let all of this go because I had a family emergency and had to move out early and Sylo very kindly let me out of the lease one month early without penalty. Per Joy, they understood what I went through and were “worried I’d leave a bad review”. I even let it go when the leasing office revoked my Door app access to my apartment a day early because I only had one box of odds and ends left behind (I tried to get the box the day after they revoked access but apparently no one is in office on Sunday and no one answered when I called). They never reached out to do a final walkthrough which I know is standard. Then a week after I moved out, I got a bill from Joy and included the last of my utilities and…$400+ for cleaning and painting. The apartment had normal wear and tear (Joy described it this way herself), and I hadn’t painted at all or even hung up any pictures since it was supposed to be a temporary unit. Per Joy, this is stadard Sylo policy, but she assured me when I moved in that there would not be cleaning and painting charges, and it is not in the lease. I guess Sylo wanted to make sure they got a little more money out of me after all. When I reminded Joy and Sylo about everything they'd put me through, and about the security risks, they said they'd waive 50% of the fees and acted like they'd done me a huge favor by saving me money on the scam they're running. They still haven't sent me a link or a paper statement with payment instructions, so I guess good luck to them if they ever do. Avoid the Weidler at all costs. The neighborhood is great, and the leasing team is very nice up front and probably totally lovely if you never need anything. But if you value your safety, cannot afford a $700 charge to move out of the building, or want a competent team to have your back in an emergency, you won’t find it here. I regret ever moving in.
