VERY long review. But, this is worth saying if I can help any of those moving/looking for a new apartment.
This is absolutely the worst apartment complex I have ever lived in.
1. Upon moving in, we were told we could park anywhere that wasn't covered. I left town to see family for a week and left my car in an uncovered spot. After a couple days, my roommate calls to tell me that my car is missing. Turns out the apartment complex towed my car and it was in impound. Management tells me they left me multiple notes on the car because I was in an assigned spot with a number on it (which I never got because I'm out of town), so they towed my car and didn't know who to call and that I didn't have a resident car sticker. We were never given a resident car sticker at move-in, despite it being stated in the lease. I try to argue my case with them that I wasn't given the car sticker, was told wrong information, and the number was so faded you couldn't even read it, but they just really don't care. I end up coming back home to a $400 impound fee. Two weeks later, the apartment complex repaints the parking lot lines and NUMBERS in the assigned spots—so clearly, they knew they were in the wrong.
2. Management told us that if we ever had outgoing mail to put it in their mail slot if it's after hours. Being a full-time student with a full-time job, I was never home during their office hours. So, I always used the mail slot for my mail. One day, I figured out that my electricity bill was never received, which is odd because the check was taken out of my account. Turns out, when I had dropped my payment into the mail slot at the apartment office, an employee took it, OPENED it, and THEN deposited the check. First off, the envelope literally said PGE on it. Second, my check was made out to PGE. Not only did they commit a federal crime, but they unlawfully cashed my PGE check that wasn't meant for them. I call them to ask wth happened, and shocker, they have "no idea" and "they will call me back." They never called back. So, I called and called and called, just for them to finally answer and say "oh, well, that employee was new."
3. It's time to renew the lease. They raise our rent to the highest they can legally. Our friend moves in next door, in the exact same apartment, exact same upgrades, exact same everything. He is charged almost $400 less than us. We tell them this and ask how that's fair. They don't care.
4. During tax season, our mailbox was broken into. My w-2s were stolen. I call the office and they say "oh, yeah, that's been happening." So, if this has BEEN an issue, why has no one been alerted? Why haven't you done anything about this? They tell me they can't help me. They tell me to file a police report. This was the last straw.
5. We decide to move out (for multiple reasons, but we also didn't feel safe or that our apartment complex deserves the high amount of rent we pay). We read the lease and nowhere does it say you need a notice AND there is just a month a half rent fee. So, we give them our last day notice and somehow they have implemented this magical new clause where you have to give a 30-day notice. How can you enforce a rule that that was never told to the residents? Again, they don't care. I give them and their head manager a list of ALL of the wrongs they've done to us and we ask, out of the kindness in their hearts, to just let us leave the apartments. They don't budge. We paid the 30-day fees.
My final note, I have learned a VERY valuable lesson in reading a lease agreement in full. I will always know where I can park/where I can't/what stickers I need/what's allowed/what's not. No one will take advantage again, but I wanted to share this because the management still was extremely unfair in the way they handled issues and never owned up to the wrongs they did.
