I recently moved into Lumen on Ninth, and honestly, my experience so far has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
The first issue is my bedroom. When I was looking for an apartment, they showed us a 5-person unit, but they never showed us the actual bedroom I would be sleeping in. I did not find out that my bedroom had no window until the beginning of August 2026, even though I signed the lease around October/November. Paying around $1,000 a month for a bedroom without a window is extremely disappointing, and it also raised serious concerns for me about safety and fire egress.
I called the office to see if they could help resolve the situation. They told me they could either provide an indoor light or offer some kind of discount on a parking space underneath the apartment, and I could choose which option I wanted. I asked about the parking option on Friday, and they told me there were no parking spots available at the time but that they would get back to me on Monday. Monday came, and they still did not have a parking space available. Instead, I was told that the only space available was across the street.
This was frustrating because the information I received changed from one conversation to the next, and I did not feel that the situation was being communicated clearly. When I asked why I was being told different things, I was told, "We're the new team, so we're sorry. It wasn't us." I understand that there may be a new management team, but that does not resolve the issue for the resident.
The second issue happened on my first night moving in, August 18. My first night of sleep was awful. On top of already having a bedroom with no window, there was a constant whirring/buzzing noise coming from somewhere in my room or the surrounding area that continued nonstop. I could not sleep.
I submitted a maintenance request, but they were still unable to determine where the noise was coming from. I have continued asking if someone can come and properly investigate what is causing it, but I was told that it is "not an emergency" because it is not something like the AC breaking or a water leak.
I also asked someone at the front desk for help, and I was told that maybe someone was playing music. However, the noise has continued, and as of August 25, when my classes are starting, I still cannot properly sleep because of it.
Sleep is not a minor inconvenience. It affects your ability to function during the day and attend class and work. It is extremely frustrating that the problem has not been treated with more urgency simply because it does not meet their definition of an "emergency."
At this point, it feels like it is easy to ask residents for their rent every month, but when residents have legitimate problems affecting their living conditions and daily life, it becomes much harder to get those problems addressed.
I understand that problems can happen, and I understand that there may be a new management team. But what I do not understand is the lack of communication, changing information, and lack of urgency when a resident has been unable to properly sleep in their own apartment.
I hope Lumen on Ninth takes these issues seriously and works to resolve them rather than continuing to make excuses.
