After 3.5 years in the building, I can honestly say this was the most frustrating rental experience I've had. Between the prolonged/continued roof closure, constant penny-pinching, and an all-around unfriendly leasing office, it's clear that resident experience was never a priority. I'm relieved to be done with the building and wish future tenants better treatment than we received.

We highly recommend avoiding the Metropolis as prior penthouse residents:
1. Water damage on the ceiling was ignored by management for about 3 months. Once we submitted our move-out notice, management promptly arranged for painters to simply paint over the water damage. Our neighbours were also dealing with water damage issues.
2. Big cracks all over walls and ceilings. Management also painted over them before viewings / the new tenant moved in, but be aware that the cracks typically reappear in the spring and fall as temperatures change.
3. North-facing windows leak during heavy rain.
4. 110+ decibel noise measured inside our apartment during many weeks of rooftop drilling work, which is illegal and considered severely unhealthy. No rent reduction was given.
5. 90F+ with both ACs running. South/east/west-facing apartments with high ceilings are especially affected.
6. Hole in the living room parquet floor remained unrepaired for about 2 months.
7. Broken blinds were not replaced for almost 1 year.
8. Shower drain constantly clogged.
9. Cockroaches in shared washer/dryer room.
10. Elevators get stuck regularly.
Management, the leasing office, and the maintenance team were fully aware of those issues. Despite that, our rent increased by ~8% every year.

I loved my experience living at The Metropolis. I've lived in 5 apartment buildings in NYC, and this was by far my favorite. 99% of that was due to the staff. The doorman are beyond compare. Every single one took great care of me. The process to get packages was easy and seamless. They guided us through the pandemic with grace. And the maintenance staff was the same--available, kind, and responsive. Thank you to all of the staff who made my two years at The Metropolis some of the best I've had in NYC.

I've lived here for almost 4 months and I have to leave a great review. The building is kept in immaculate condition and the doormen are the best of any building that I've ever lived in or visited. All knew my name within a week and they're super helpful. The amenities are excellent (ping pong, beautiful rooftop) as well. Had a few maintenance requests when I first was getting settled and everything was taken care of within about 2 days max. Love living here, they do a really nice job
