So I’ve been here now for a bit now and I want to write about the pros and cons. Things I wish I knew prior to moving here. Hopefully this will help someone else make a more informed decision.
Pros- no issues with neighbors, at least in my building. Pretty quiet, everyone so far is friendly. I feel safe. Pet friendly as well. Apartment is fine for short term that I will be living here. I am in the older buildings. One washer and dryer per bldg and each cycle costs around $1.75 per load. my apartment has vinyl flooring it’s very small 850 ft.² and both bedrooms have berber carpeting. Everything is very clean no issues so far. The air-conditioning units are very loud just as a heads up. I work from home and it is in the main living area, so it was a bit distracting. I had to turn it off when I was making phone calls.
Property mgt is nice and responds promptly. She sometimes seems aggravated or stressed when you contact her but understandably it can be a stressful job. No issues with packages going missing either so far. No assigned parking spots, so during the winter, I imagine I may end up parking in front of two other buildings because it’s whoever gets that closest spot first. There is handicap parking. There are a couple of tenants who double park in one area which is a bit annoying, not a huge deal and it could be much worse. There is an area in the front of the development that has a playground and you can bring your dogs there. It is not fenced in, however. which is fine. I just like having a lot of green to walk the dogs on which is a plus there is also a poop bag dispenser with bags and a can, which is convenient.
Cons-if you are 10 days late with rent, you will get served a letter through a process server, along with a few emails. I want to be clear that this is Symphony management’s policy so it’s for any of their properties. It has nothing to do with the property manager personally. She has to enforce it understandably. When I first moved in, I was struggling/paying rent for my old place and here, and was late. I immediately started receiving these emails telling me I had to pay or I would be asked to leave the premises. Please be aware of this. It is a very transactional feeling here. You are a number and I understand that there are probably deadbeats and people that never pay their rent, but it’s definitely extreme here. They will also charge you for any process server fees, so be aware of this if you are someone that pays rent late from time to time.
The grounds are not maintained well at least in the parking lot where my building is located. The very first building when you pull in always has a lot of garbage spread out on the lawn. I do believe it’s blowing over from the dumpsters, but maintenance never cleans it up. There is a garage door that has a huge dent in it and it has never been fixed. The mailboxes are banged up and look like they’ve been hit by a car. There’s a squirrel making a nest in the awning here in my building and the panel underneath looks like eventually it will collapse. These things don’t hurt me, but if these are things that might make or break someone else’s decision, I wanted to share. These are just some things I’ve noticed. The residents can be pretty sloppy at the dumpsters. I was observing bags of garbage that must’ve ripped open or spilled and there’s garbage all in front of the dumpsters more often than not. Someone threw out hangers and miss the can and they were left out in front of the dumpsters for over a week along with old muffins, food wrappers etc. The garbage will remain there for a week or two before getting cleaned up.
I have a short term lease so I will stick it out, but I don’t think I would renew a lease here down the road.
