AVOID THIS PLACE — WORST LEASING EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD. In my opinion, Marineview Apartments in Perth Amboy showed complete disregard for potential tenants from the very beginning. The entire experience was filled with red flags, poor communication, rude customer service, and what felt like a complete waste of my time. Over a week ago, I submitted an inquiry through Apartments.com and immediately received an email stating that a leasing professional would contact me within 24 hours. No one ever did. Red flag #1. Three days later, I had to call THEM. The woman I spoke with sounded rushed, cold, and very curt, but I still scheduled an appointment to tour a unit for Thursday, May 14 at 3:30 PM. She told me someone would call the day before to confirm the appointment. Again, no one called. Red flag #2. The day before my scheduled appointment, since I was already going to be in the area, I called to ask if I could possibly stop by earlier on May 13 instead. The same leasing agent quickly and rudely shut it down, saying they had no availability. Fine. I reminded her that I already had an appointment scheduled for May 14 at 3:30 PM. She asked for my name, confirmed the appointment, said “we’ll see you tomorrow,” and rushed me off the phone. Fast forward to today. I drove almost TWO HOURS from Pennsylvania for this appointment. I arrived at approximately 2:55 PM — 35 minutes early — so I could walk around the property and get a feel for the area. To be fair, the outside of the complex looked nice. That’s where the positives ended. I followed signs to the leasing office and was honestly shocked. The office appeared to be located in what looked like a basement area surrounded by garbage and an unwelcoming laundry-room entrance. It did not feel professional or inviting whatsoever. I knocked on the office door, but it was locked. I called the leasing number multiple times and no one answered. I left a voicemail explaining that I had an appointment and was outside waiting. Nothing. I waited approximately 20–25 minutes total, calling multiple times with no response. At around 3:45 PM, another woman finally answered. Not only did she immediately start defending the leasing agent by claiming the agent had been there from 3:00–3:30 showing the apartment — which was impossible because I had been there since before 3:00 PM — but she also had the audacity to ask me why I hadn’t called sooner. I explained that I HAD been calling repeatedly and had even left a voicemail, but since nobody had the decency to return my calls, I called again before driving two hours back home. After putting me on hold multiple times and even dropping the call once, she eventually informed me that the leasing agent had already left for the day. Then I was told maintenance might be able to show me the unit — except maintenance had “stepped out” too. To make matters worse, while apologizing and offering to email me an application, she also casually mentioned that someone had already submitted an application for the unit. Interesting considering I had literally confirmed the availability the day before. The application fee? $50 NON-REFUNDABLE. So let me get this straight: You fail to contact me multiple times, stand me up for a confirmed appointment after I drive almost two hours, and then still try to collect a non-refundable application fee for a unit that may already be taken? Absolutely unbelievable. Based on my experience, this place showed zero professionalism and zero respect for my time. If this is how potential tenants are treated before even signing a lease, I can only imagine the experience current residents deal with. In my opinion: rude, disorganized, unprofessional, and filled with red flags. Never again.
