  Let me first start by saying I don’t live here. However, I frequently visit my sister and have always been impressed with how well run the complex seemed. It was always quiet and seemed that it was mostly made up of young professionals who were considerate of each other. That is….up until about 7 months ago. Over the winter, I started noticing that the lobby and outside weren’t as well kept as normal. However, just a few weeks ago I really started noticing just how filthy the complex had become. There is a foul odor in the lobby almost every time I come in. Add to that what seems to be a non-functional air conditioning system and it’s almost unbearable. The trash overflows in the lobby, the outside, and hall trash rooms. There are Alcohol cans and solo cups littering the grounds, and a few weeks ago there was a Taco Bell cup of urine sitting at the door. Apparently picking up after pets isn’t a thing any more as someone has been letting their dog poop all throughout the mulch lining the ramp to the side entrance. Speaking of which, the gate to the side entrance is broken, so I had to carry a stroller along with my 5 month old up the stairs to enter the building today. The pet waste station is hardly ever stocked when I walk through the area, and as a result, the make-shift dog park is littered with piles of dookie. I’m guessing parking near the building belongs to the new dog grooming business as every time I’m here people who are dropping off and picking up dogs are taking up all the parks.Sensible parking is non-existent, and I was told both residents and visitors are now expected to park in the lot near the train yard. The same train yard where homeless individuals roam at all hours, one of which followed me from my car to the door of the lofts building just a couple of weeks ago. I was so excited to look into leasing here after finishing school, but with the state of this community now, I’d consider living in North County before here… THAT’S how bad it is.

  Lauryn and Ismary were helpful and communicated with me concerning an issue I had. I lived at Steelcote Flats for 4 years and loved it. I've moved. Was a good environment. Thank you girls. Much appreciated.

  This was the worst apartment complex experience I've ever had. This felt like staying in a Motel 6 in the ghetto 1.) the common areas tend to be dirty. There's trash and stains in the hallways and there's always a lingering smell of marijuana even though they say it's supposed to be a smoke free building. I see cleaning ladies every now and then but I'm not really sure what they are actually cleaning. Not to mention people putting their dog crap IN the trashcan in the parking garage RIGHT by the door so you get a lovely smell of shit when you walk into the complex after a long shift at work. 2.) do NOT park your car in the back parking lot!! Yes, it's free but cars are broken into ALL the time!! When we moved in we were told this was the first time it had happened. I felt this wasn't the truth considering it happened numerous times after ours was attempted to be broken into with damage left to one of the windows. Pay for the gated parking, it's going to run you 125/month but it beats having your things stolen or vehicle windows broken! 3.) I inquired COUNTLESS times about surveillance cameras and if they even worked. I never could get a straight answer out of management so I'm going to assume none of the cameras that you see work. Otherwise they would look into who was breaking into vehicles! 4.) the walls are PAPER THIN!!! you can hear everything and most tenants that live there have NO respect for other tenants. It's far from a quiet environment. If you work night shift, good luck because the landscaping company runs from sun up to sun down and it is LOUD. there's also several people that ride their motorcycles up and down the street in front of the complex all day everyday. 5.) I had to call the police not once but TWICE for 2 separate domestic issues. One altercation that broke out ON my floor about 4 doors down and then another incident where a couple was choking each other out in a car and dragging each other up and down the street by their hair right outside my window. In this area, you have to call the police numerous times for them to show up ..this was stated to me over the phone by management of the apartment complex. The police came 45min later and did absolutely NOTHING!! These were people that were residents IN this complex and management could care less about exterior issues or the issues it brings INTO the building! 6.) swim at your own risk in the pool. Everytime I was out there the pool hadn't been cleaned and was gross with hair and dirt floating around in it. I found shards of glass in there several times along with rusted jewelery. Any of these things could have been stepped on if you weren't looking. The only "pool maintenance" I saw was the old man that just puts a water hose in the pool and runs water into it and that's it. 7. After reading other people's reviews in here it looks like management is constantly changing without any information about the changes so a lot of my concerns was going to a lady that was no longer even working at the complex. But when I did get in touch with the new manager (Lauryn), she did nothing about my concerns and when I inquired about cameras and safety she basically said I could purchase a ring camera for peace of mind. I was not about to invest in something 100-200 bucks JUST to feel safe when all complexes should have cameras especially in an unsafe area such as that one is! Please note not only are there NO cameras outside but also not inside in the hallways or anything so there were occasions where individuals would run up and down the halls banging on peoples door and running off during the day. These were only some of the issues I experienced during my stay at this complex. I didn't even stay the entire duration of my lease...that's how bad it got. They sure do make it look desireable on paper and online but trust me, looks are VERY deceiving and you can put a filter on ANYTHING!!! One thing I learned especially in st Louis, cheaper is NOT always better or safer!!!

  Avoid Steelcote Lofts. The photos used to advertise this place are completely misleading. The pool you see in the pictures looks great, but in reality it’s broken and covered in algae. It’s basically a swamp. Maintenance and cleanliness are terrible. From what residents are told, one maintenance person is responsible for three buildings, so nothing actually gets fixed in a reasonable time. Management turnover is constant. Managers seem to rotate every few months, which means no accountability and no follow-through when issues are reported. Parking is a nightmare because they use a predatory towing company. If your car gets towed, expect to pay around $700+ to get it back. Safety is also a major concern. There are homeless encampments behind the building, and car break-ins are common. The property advertises security cameras, but many of them don’t even work, so don’t expect any help if something happens. At one point, agents from ATF had to break down a door in the building to arrest drug dealers, which says a lot about the environment here. The culture and environment has shifted negatively. Meanwhile, rent keeps going up while amenities keep disappearing. They even removed cups from the coffee station and blamed it on “saving the earth.” The most concerning issue I experienced was significant mold that caused health concerns. It completely covered the walls behind our couch. From talking with other residents, it doesn’t seem like an isolated issue. No concession was offered. See photos attached. Also the garage floods with any heavy rain. They still sell parking for $100 a month. See photos attached. Tenant turnover is extremely high. Most people don’t stay longer than a year, and after living here it’s easy to see why. This place might look good in marketing photos, but the reality is poor management, poor maintenance, and serious safety concerns. The Callbox does not work for new residents, I moved out earlier this year and my name is still on it to gain access. Meaning a huge safety issue that all former residents have access to the building, Also note. The Winter and Amy are fake reviews from the last manager to boost this place up. The negative ones are all my neighbors at one point, and it’s how this place operates.

  My parents have lived in this apartment since early March 2024, and they are very happy. In the last 6 months, they have seen the building become cleaner and a faster response from the maintenance guys. My Mother is retired and spends a lot of time sitting in the lounge areas and has seen so much hard work from the staff. She has seen the manager clean toilets, scrub floors, pick up after dogs, pick up trash, and help with heavy packages. Recently, my mom has had the new maintenance guy help with bringing up heavy groceries for her; they truly help so much. What my Mother has also seen in the last few weeks is people being unbelievably awful to the staff. People who live there yell at them and treat them terribly when they do not get whatever they want, yelling and actually threatening them for doing their job. This week, my Mother witnessed the staff being mistreated so badly that the police had to come, and she was still welcomed with a smile just moments later, as if it had never happened. Now, I hear the manager has resigned, and she will be greatly missed.
