I had a very disappointing experience with the new management at The Exchange Apartments. I lived here for roughly 2 years, and this was my first apartment, so I really wanted to enjoy living here. The old management team was genuinely kind, professional, welcoming, and made the building feel like home. Unfortunately, once the new management took over, everything changed for the worse.
The management here, especially the lady at the front desk, made me feel extremely uncomfortable almost every time I had to interact with them. The energy was always weird, passive aggressive, cold, and honestly disrespectful. Instead of helping tenants or making people feel welcome, they made even simple conversations feel awkward and uncomfortable. Whenever I came to them with questions or concerns, I felt brushed off, judged, or talked to in a rude and passive aggressive way. It honestly got to the point where I avoided interacting with management because of how uncomfortable they made me feel.
What made it worse is that they seemed perfectly capable of being warm and friendly with other tenants, but whenever I interacted with them, the vibe felt completely different. Whether intentional or not, it made me feel unwelcome.
One moment that really stood out to me happened during move-out day. I was parked out front briefly and was told I needed to move my truck because I was near handicap parking, which I understood and had no issue with. I politely asked where I should park instead while moving out, and management was very unhelpful and dismissive. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was that there was some random guy standing there talking to management — someone I had never seen before — who randomly jumped into the conversation and started telling me, “Yeah, you can’t park there.” I had no idea who he was, why he felt the need to involve himself, or why management allowed someone who didn’t seem to work there to insert themselves into a conversation with a tenant. It made an already uncomfortable situation feel even weirder and more disrespectful.
Later, after I moved my truck, management came up to me again very disrespectfully and told me that I was blocking another tenant from leaving. The way it was said really upset me. There was no politeness, no “please,” no attempt to speak respectfully — just a rude tone like I was doing something wrong on purpose. I honestly believed there was enough room for the other tenant to get around, and I even mentioned that, but I was immediately shut down in a very rude and dismissive way. It wasn’t even what was said — it was how it was said. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily hostile during an already stressful move-out process.
On top of the poor management, there were also issues with the building itself. Sometimes homeless people would hang around the lobby, the elevator regularly smelled like urine, and for how expensive the rent is, the upkeep and overall management were disappointing.
I was a good tenant, paid rent, never caused issues, and genuinely would have considered extending my lease if the old management was still there. Instead, the new management nickel-and-dimed me for everything possible and made my experience feel stressful and uncomfortable. I hate leaving bad reviews, but based on my experience, I would not recommend living here. No tenant should feel uncomfortable, disrespected, or unwelcome in the place they call home
