The biggest problem with modern apartment living isn’t the building. It isn’t your neighbors. It isn’t even the property manager. It’s the fact that more and more apartments are run like giant corporations instead of communities.
Somewhere along the way, common sense got replaced with policies, and people got replaced with spreadsheets.
This isn’t really a review of the building—it’s a review of the system behind it.
Nuvelo is a beautiful property. The amenities are nice, it’s well maintained, and I genuinely think most people won’t have major issues living here. My frustration has never been with the people you actually see every day.
The leasing staff and property managers were always kind, professional, and did everything they reasonably could. Having worked in a corporate environment myself, I could tell they were often put in impossible situations. They care, but they’re expected to enforce policies they didn’t create and usually can’t change. In many ways, they’re glorified customer service representatives for decisions made by people they’ll probably never meet.
My issue is with the corporate structure. The people making the decisions are so far removed from the residents that every situation seems to become a matter of policy, liability, and revenue. They build systems that protect the company first, while the people on the front lines are left trying to explain decisions they likely don’t agree with themselves.
I understand that apartments are businesses and that they need to make money. That’s not my complaint. My complaint is that many large property management companies have become as difficult to work with as cable companies or wireless providers. Everything feels designed to protect the corporation, while flexibility and common sense become increasingly rare.
So if you’re considering Nuvelo, know this: I think the building is great, and I have nothing but respect for the on-site team. They’re good people doing the best they can within a system they don’t control. My criticism is directed entirely at the corporate culture behind the property, not the employees who show up every day trying to help residents.
If I were choosing again, I’d still look for a nice building—but I’d pay just as much attention to who owns and manages it as I would the amenities. In my experience, that’s what ultimately shapes how you’re treated when something doesn’t go according to plan.

I've been in this apartment for over two years, and I'm very glad I made this choice. Angel Ramirez omg is the best! He so friendly, kind, and he always there for anything you need!
The management staff Lindsey and Chris are very accommodating and quick to respond, taking care of issues as soon as they arise.
"I am so impressed with the maintenance service at this community. The staff came to address a leak in my bathroom and was incredibly knowledgeable and professional.
Highly recommend this team for their high-quality standards and kindness. Fantastic, clean, and well-maintained property. The surrounding area is always tidy, and the staff is very responsive to maintenance requests.
I lived here right after it opened until recently I broke my lease ($2000)....so almost 6 years. At first it was really nice but after about two years management just let the property go. I've had visitors towed, with passes and it costs $350 cash to get your car and the office doesn't do anything even if you're wrongly towed. I've played parking wars trying to park on the lot parking...where I live, having to circle the lot for 30+ minutes.
I've had issues with the amenities not working, my electrical outlets kept blowing and maintenance said "it's picking up signals from across the street" & putting the same maintenance request in over and over again until my boyfriend would just end up fixing it for me, my smoke detectors continuously went off and I had to call the fire department multiple times over the years, first name basis... Couldn't ever use my terrace because the washing machine from an unknown unit has their vents drop lint on you or the neighbors AC is attached to them so you cannot hear your own thoughts.
But I loved the gym, the convience really of where the apartments are located and having extra bathrooms throughout the building (when they weren't locked or not working) for guests to use. The coffee machine is a big hit as well. Never lost a package.
But the last year, there was a lot of violence in the park, drugs and suicide in the building. The cleaners brought cockroaches into the building and in the end the upbeat friendly atmosphere and cleaniness just went away. If something in the common area was broken or there were piles of dog poop or dog poop bags everywhere management didn't care.
Come move out time, we did the final walk through, everything was fine. Then I get a letter that I'm being charged for high prices for small things that's normal wear and tear and threatened to send me to collections, bit aggressive..
I wouldn't call this a high class building. It's very overpriced for what you actually get and I wouldn't take back my experience but I wouldn't recommend these apartments. They look nice but they're cheaply thrown together and not cared for because you pay for that when you move out.

Never rent from this apartment complex EVER!! Soon as you move out they charge you for innacurate damages and random fees that are not real!! Managment sucks and the units are not luxury! It’s a money pit, be ready to get scammed! Also there’s random people not even residents who walk in. Always a stench of weed smell, so if ur a smoker it’s a great place for you! Constant loud footsteps running through the halls as well as dogs barking constantly! Pools always closed. The grills hardly work and never have gas, bottom line the place is garbage. They tow your vehicle even with a parking pass! Doesn’t even deserve 1 star!!! Managment never answers the phone either so don’t bother calling for anything!

Overall, Nuvelo was a great place to live. I lived here for 1.5 years and maintenance always came fast (and the workers are super friendly), the community is very clean and safe, the pool, patios, and gym were awesome amenities, and the underground heated parking was perfect for MN winters. My own 2 complaints- you cannot park over night in between the buildings because it’s technically not owned by the building, and sometimes the outdoor parking lot was full, and this usually resulted in a parking ticket if you forgot to move your car. The other is that rent was raised so high! Initial rent was $1350, was bumped up to $1425, and bumped up again to $2020.
