I love the George, I've called this my place of residence for about 7 years now. I love the management, maintenance gets a request done in less than 24hrs. Everyone is so friendly, and it's on way it's its on little community. There are some neighbors who have also been here for years making it a friendly time. It's super convenient to everything and the building is super secure. I haven't had no issues.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay here. Like any apartment complex, it has its issues. But there’s a clear difference between minor inconveniences and legitimate complaints.
I lived at The George for two years after accepting a job in Washington, DC, and left reluctantly during the wave of federal layoffs. Ironically, my job loss was tied to a New York Times article about solo dining, though the broader political climate was cited as the justification. Had things gone differently politically, I likely would have remained employed and stayed in the area longer.
One of the biggest advantages was the location. Being right next to the Red Line meant I didn’t need a car. I could easily commute to work on the National Mall and get around for leisure. My partner at the time loved the coffee machine, while I frequently used the lounge and gym. Like many DC apartments, lighting was minimal (just one fixture in the bathroom and one in the kitchen), but I made do with a couple of lamps.
I really appreciated having an in-unit washer/dryer and dishwasher. They made a noticeable difference in day-to-day quality of life. I also had a great view of downtown Silver Spring and could even see the Washington Monument.
I knew the property managers on a first-name basis. Crystal and the Australian woman (forgotting her name. I think Polly) are true professionals. I'm unsure why someone claimed Polly was racist. I never got the vibe from her, ever. And she seem quite impressed that an American knew Australian history and geography (my second book covers Australia).
Maintenance was pretty quick in my experience. They would arrive the same day and fix the issue when I couldn't get hot water out of the shower, etc.
Minor annoyances:
I wish there had been more storage space. I had to fit everything into a single closet.
Some residents were occasionally loud. The couple above me argued from time to time, and one neighbor in the hall didn’t clean up after the dogs she was watching and let them run through the hallway in the mornings. To be fair, those issues weren’t the building’s fault. And they only happened a few times.
Elevator outages and water shutdowns were frustrating at times. But I usually was at work or out of town when they happened.
In the summers, and I don't know why, I would get flys in my apartment. I killed them quickly, but I still have no idea where they were coming from.
Biggest complaints:
Annual rent increases. I declined Montgomery County’s two-year lease option since I wasn’t sure how long I’d stay. My rent went from $1,535 to $1,678, and would have jumped to $1,878 upon renewal. That increase felt hard to justify, especially since the amenities and services didn’t change. And, in my opinion, Wheaton isn’t the most desirable suburb. It's pretty bland.
No subleasing option. Breaking my lease would have cost $5,700. When I explain that to people after moving away, they’re often shocked, but they don’t realize how financially stressful it would have been to stay in the area without a job and with so many former federal workers and contractors searching for work. It ultimately took me a full year to find new employment.
