I am a disabled female who was contacted by the Branchwood Tower staff to come by June 24 to fill out an application for an available senior apartment that I have been on the Section 8 waiting list for six years. I also gave them the required information, for example, social security card, birth certificate and bank statements, etc. I was not given any walk-through of the place. The receptionist was very unprofessional after she finished her phone call with a resident tenant, and she said to me that these people here are very stupid and didn't think highly of the staff that she works with.either by saying that they do not know what their doing.
The very next day on June 25, they called me to come back to fill out the Housing, Urban & Development (HUD) application, so I did. The receptionist said that move-in day will be July 1, and I felt that day was too rushed for me. I told her that I can do August 1, and she said that August 3 can work for move-in day. On June 26, the staff called me to pick up keys for move-in day for July 1. I told them that I thought we agreed to August 3, and they told me that the apartment may not be available for that long. They also said that you can pick up the keys and move-in at any time, and you will have to pay a down-payment. I asked for how much, and I was told that they don't know until the HUD application is approved. How can I move-in July 1 when the HUD application has not even been approved? Again, I felt rushed and they said they will call me once they get HUD's approval. They also said the apartment may not be available because they will likely give it to someone else. To date, I did not get any call as to whether my application with HUD was approved. I believe that Branchwood Towers do not follow HUD procedures and probably do not do credit or background checks on their tenants because they move you in too fast. They do not give potential senior tenants a choice to move-in when they want to based on their availability nor do they allow you to see the place only their office.
