  In 2025 we engaged Sotheby's to assist in renting a home while we re located to Italy. Although the marketing photographs were promising, the agent assigned to assist provided very little support for the effort. There was, for example no standard lease forms offered, no tenant screening and very poor communications with almost no details about potential inquiries. Until we took independent steps to post the listing on Zillow - where we received numerous inquiries which were forwarded to the agent, very little progress was made. No one at either the Great Barrington or Lenox office appears to monitor the expiration of the exclusive listing agreements - so we ended the cycle by having to write a letter to ask they remove their sign. One great observation did emerge from this experience - that was the decision to hire an property steward / manager to be available to perform all the functions of a realtor like attending open houses, helping tenants to establish payment arrangements and curate a lease that befits the property. In a county where so much housing need goes unmet, the inability of the company to match its reputation for quality is a real disappointment. I envy our neighbours in the Hudson Valley who have firms like Elyse Harney to assist with brokerage work. The potential broker fees are much better invested in hiring an independent contractor to handle property management.

  Thom Garvey has been my realtor for a number of real estate transactions. He is caring, knows the market well, and ensures the process goes as smoothly as possible. It is obvious he enjoys working within the realty profession and in meeting with his clients. I would not hesitate in recommending him to anyone wishing to purchase or sell a home or business.

  Gladys Montgomery made my future possible. Moving from California back to my home state was a daunting prospect, to say the least. With a job waiting, but a clock also ticking, I dove in, not knowing what to expect, what inventory might be, and how realistic I would have to get in terms of money, environment and location. Gladys gave great perspectives, listened to my thoughts, my needs, my fantasies...extrapolated what that all looked like, not only in a home, but in beginning a new life and growing a support system. She probed, guided, supported. And when we honed in on a house, she went the extra mile and thank god she did as only through her going there and talking to neighbors did we realize a massive sound issue existed. She caught it, and despite a huge upside to her if I bought the home, she fully supported me pulling out. When we found the right home, she was dogged in getting me in to see it (before the open house that had been delayed due to snow), and worked hard with the sellers' agent to make sure we, as a team, got what was fair. I'm ready to start my new life, and know that Gladys will be a permanent part if it, if not as my ongoing realtor, then as a friend. Hang on to her for as long as you possibly can. She's the best of the best.
