I would give negative stars if I could. My husband and I were first time home buyers and bought a -then-new 2024 elation. It was their cheapest 3 bedroom home and we figured it would be a great started home for our family while we build a large savings to buy a bigger, better home. Melinda fox was our sales person. In 2023, we applied and were denied. She told us to apply again in a year to see if we get approved. We did and we were approved. We came down, she showed us our home options and stated all the mobile homes have a 5 year warranty. What was a red flag from the very beginning, is that I had to call Clayton homes/Melinda to tell her that we were approved. Shouldn’t the sales person be the one to call us? When she answered, she was loudly chewing on an apple and replied, “oh, really?” As if she was very shocked we were even approved. When it came to closing day, she told us she will not be there because she will be out of town for a conference. She was in contact with us a little here and there via phone between being approved and the closing day. Just some information about the down payment, the 5 year warranty, when the home will be ready, ect. After the home was delivered, there was no more communication. Not even a little. Not a expected move in date, I had to call her once and ask if I needed to buy/build steps. It was at this time, she told me the home came with 1 set of steps and if I wanted 2 then I should have said something before. This whole situation rubbed me the wrong way and I was quite upset with them. However, after everything was said and done, we moved in. And for the first year, it was great, anytime we had a problem, any problem, no matter how big or small, their Clayton home maintenance man would come and fix anything/everything. He was awesome. Fast forward to today, I woke up to a flooded kitchen. No worries, I messaged the maintenance man. He then informed me he only takes care of the 1st year warranty and the the years 2-5 is through a different company. I thought this was odd and a little upset I was never informed of this. So I call this company, and to find out, we were never registered for the warranty. Sounds like a whole lot of miscommunication (or even no communication at all) between Melinda leaving for this conference and making us go through another person for closing. To say I am upset, is a understatement. I am beyond disappointed in this company. To make matters worse, Melinda is also my 2nd cousin, so rest assured she even does this with family members. My husband and I were even talking about the other day of upgrading our home to the Anna Fae double wide through Clayton home, and that it would be great for us as a upgrade and even better with the 5 year warranty. Guess what? Not doing that anymore. I write all these details to forewarn anyone buying a home from Clayton home. Some day you might wake up to a flooded kitchen, and the warranty that you paid for, never existed in the first place.
