I lived at Uptown Lagrange from November 2024 to Feb 2026. When JVM was managing the building, almost everything was perfect: Clean, Good Management, Stuff Worked, good maintenance, etc. it was as advertised; however, all of that changed when Graystar management took over. They couldn’t have hand picked a more incompetent management team to take over. Not all Graystar properties are bad, but 99.9% are. If you do your homework, Graystar is a management company equivalent to the corporate raiders of the 80s and 90s. They buy these properties, strip all the assets, cut costs, and raise rent an exuberant amount in the process. Let’s go over some of the wonderful things I got to expierence once Graystar took over: - Package room was disabled and no one could get their packages for over a month. They eventually just disabled the lock so anyone could go in their and take stuff (which became a big problem) -Graystar had no maintenance team the first 4 months after they took over. Every single appliance in my apartment was broke (Washing machine, dishwasher, ice machine, running toilet) and once they finally got a maintenance team, they refused to fix anything besides the washing machine for whatever reason. - I was charged double for parking for months. -They never received copies of our leases from JVM so the management team had no clue what was going on most of the time when it came to billing, move out, etc. - I was charged 10x my average utility bill (more than once) and I have yet to see that $800 ever again (They kept telling me they would figure it out but never did). - During move out, I reserved the loading dock and told them what time the movers were coming. First of all, their maintainer guy was parked in front of it so I had to run around the building to find him and move it. Second of all, they didn’t tell me they had elevator maintenance scheduled that day and I ended up owning the movers and extra 400 dollars. -I’d say in the end, Graystar ended up costing me an extra $2,000 to $3,000 during my stay because of the above incompetencies: I ended up doing most maintenance myself. -Many local business owners pulled out the second they heard Graystar took over and I should have too. They were no better when I was living in Minneapolis. - If you like the smell of pot and smoke, this place is for you. They say it’s a smoke free community but do nothing to enforce it. - Management team comes and goes when they feel like it. They have hours posted online, but they show up 1-2 hours late and leave 2-3 hours early. - Every single amenity has gone to shit and nothing is being done to take care of it. - They locked the public restrooms for whatever reason. -After I moved out, they all broke the law, opened my packages and gave the contents away before I could pick them up: Pet Food I could keep writing for days but that’s a small taste of what you’re in for you you go with Uptown. All could be forgiven if they weren’t charging as much as a nice apartment in the city. I really hopped they’ve turned things around in the 2 months since I moved out, but I doubt it. Use this to make an informed decision and realize you’re better off pretty much anywhere else.

will give it 4 stars for the first 3 years I've lived here: building kept clean, maintenance team attentive, management responded to emails or concerns timely manner, overall building maintenance was completed in a timely manner, . However, a new management company took over- it has gone downhill. While rent cost just keeps rising, the building cleanliness, ect has gone way done. It's disappointing bc this was a well kept and managed building. Since the new company took over: was billed double for 2 months in a row for parking - took several weeks & multiple calls/emails on my end- for that to be straightened out, team members barely respond to emails or voicemails or maintenance requests(i've had to call and leave multiple voicemails & emails) ; no idea who is on the maintenance team or actually works here anymore (before we had emails sent out to announce 'new' team members), locked package room is no longer secured (lock on door broken multiple times), residents leave the security door in lobby propped open after hours so their guests can come and go, guests bathrooms in lobby are locked now and we are told via email we have to 'ask for the key' for our guests/us to use (not sure what happened as to why they are now locked), building cleanliness has gone down (residents' dogs have soiled the hallways at times, garbage left in the doorways to the garage for months, or random garbage left inside the garage, etc) , the secure garage door has needed repair multiple times over the last year (so it needs to be left open) we pay $125/month for garage parking!, the hallways and garage in the winter are freezing now (clearly the new company decreased the temp in the building, while putting 'space heaters' in the lobby).

I haven’t been here long and for me, the management ruined my whole experience being here especially because of how overwhelmed I have been caring for my child who has been sick for over a month with 2 viruses. The apartment itself is nice and spacious. Aside from constant spiders. The management is fine until they’re not, until you need something fixed, and could be racist/discriminatory. And also I’ve had my packages stolen. I made a maintenance request when I first moved in because one of the rooms have cold air leaking from the window. I put no access because I didn’t want anyone there when I wasn’t present. A month went by and nobody came until this year and they put in the request that it was completed. They never notified me of entering my home so I never knew they were here. They came in when I wasn’t there and without my permission, and also did not fix the issue. The same day after entering without my permission they sent a notice for a next day mandatory inspection. Then accused me of smoking in the unit, even though I haven’t and they did the mandatory inspection (and also since I’ve been here there are multiple people around the building smoking inside and out but never sent out any notices prior to this). They put a notice after the inspection telling me to fix the smell and there would be another inspection after the weekend was over. I contact them asking where did they smell anything because I’ve had the place deep cleaned multiple times throughout being here by task rabbit employees, including my items and also have had people walk through and there was nothing. So I was confused on what smell they needed me to fix and if they come again it would just be the same thing being said. I also don’t be here much because I just moved in and im constantly taking my child back and fourth to the hospital. And when they did the mandatory inspection they walked in for less than 10 seconds went straight to one room no where else. They refused to tell me what they smelled and where and just kept saying I had to speak to someone else about the issue but the person I had to speak to wasn’t available until the day of the next inspection and didn’t have a time for the next inspection either until I practically hounded them about it. They just repeated they would check again and they are checking for signs of smoking. And once the person was available they just repeated the same lines over and refused to take accountability for entering my home without permission.

Even though I did not end up going Uptown as my future home, I have to give credit where it’s due. I had the most wonderful experience with the gentleman that showed me around. Gilbert V was such a kind soul, he was very patient with all my questions and was knowledgeable with his answers. Not too mention he was quite the comedian as well, kept me laughing the whole time! The building was beautiful and well maintained and the amenities were nice as well. Anyone would be lucky to call Uptown their home with staff as kind, attentive, and knowledgeable as the staff that I interacted with!
