  If I could give zero stars, I would. This building is marketed as a luxury residence, but what residents actually experience is the complete opposite. Safety and maintenance concerns go repeatedly ignored or minimized by management. The property manager routinely downplays issues, and when residents raise concerns, they are brushed off with vague promises and no follow-through. In July 2024, federal mail was stolen from our secure mailboxes. A police report was filed by The Shelby, but residents were never notified. I only found out because my passport was stolen. Since then, there have been at least three separate incidents in 2025 where masked individuals entered the building and stole packages, again, no communication from management. Upon signing a lease, residents are pressured to leave 5-star reviews, which explains the misleading rating. The building itself is deteriorating: issues are never resolved, and there is zero accountability. The only positive that I can give is maintenance. He is amazing and always addresses concerns. Otherwise the building is trash. We are paying for a “luxury” experience, but what we’re getting is mismanagement, silence around serious safety threats, and clear negligence. I would not recommend living here to anyone concerned about their safety or peace of mind.

  I loved living at the Shelby Chicage! Ivan and Pedro were the best. Pedro can fix anything and always had great suggestions to fix problems. Ivan is so cool and helpful. So very nice. Very responsive to all requests. The tenants are nice and respectful as well. Great location to downtown Chicago.

  My fiancé and I recently put an application for The Shelby because I toured them last year but went with another place. I remembered how nice there apartments were & how nice the staff was though the location was further away and remote then compared to other places in the South Loop that I’ve stayed. We applied for a 2 bed 2 bathroom. Currently I’m taking a much needed break from the workforce & my Fiancé makes enough to cover rent as soon as the Property manager found out I was unemployed/stay at home fiancé. He shifted his attitude and the next day our application was denied. They didn’t even bother looking at my fiancé application. Mind you I have a year worth of salary saved up and have a small amount of income coming in which was listed on the application. In total our combine income is 9K and we have amazing credit scores no past evictions and were denied. If “Susan” was a stay at home wife I’m sure her & “Bobby” would have got approved. DO NOT APPLY TO THIS PROPERTY THEY ARE USING DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES TO SCREEN APPLICANTS. The manger I spoke with was Alexander Sproling

  We have absolutely loved living here! The management is absolutely exceptional, they respond quickly to issues and are proactive about creating a real community feeling in the building. They are also very flexible and worked with us when we needed to move in ahead of schedule! Cannot say enough about living here! Not to mention the location and apartments themselves are outstanding!!!!

  We (my girlfriend and I) lived at the Shelby Chicago for a year and loved it. The Shelby has all features that are must-haves for us. Safe covered parking, a spacious unit with hardwood floors, in-unit washer dryer, and a wonderful apartment manager (Jeff is awesome). Looking back, there were many other great things that made our stay at the Shelby enjoyable. We never had any problems with heating or AC, on-site maintenance always responded quickly and addressed all of our issues, the gym always had available machines, and the front-desk was very friendly. I would absolutely recommend the Shelby to anyone looking to rent in the South Loop.
