We lived at Columbus Plaza for a decade and had a wonderful experience. The views of the river and the iconic DuSable Bridge are absolutely amazing and something we never got tired of. The location is unbeatable and the building always felt well maintained and welcoming. One of the biggest advantages is the direct access to the underground Pedway system, which is incredibly convenient during Chicago winters, rain, or busy downtown days. Being able to walk indoors to nearby offices, shopping, restaurants, transit, and other parts of downtown makes city living so much easier and more comfortable year-round. Another major highlight is the office and maintenance team. Paul, Alen, and the rest of the staff were always professional, friendly, and quick to help whenever needed. It really makes a difference when a building has a team that truly cares about the residents. After living there for a decade, we can honestly say Columbus Plaza was a fantastic place to call home.

⭐ 1 Star If you’re considering living here, pay close attention to how management responds when something goes wrong. Our experience revealed a level of indifference and poor judgment that ultimately drove us to leave after years as residents. Following a leak in our unit, we were left dealing with a persistent odor for months. It took repeated requests and constant follow-up before meaningful inspection efforts occurred. Rather than properly addressing damaged materials, management appeared more focused on minimizing concerns and closing tickets than resolving the underlying problem. The most troubling part was the unprofessional conduct of property manager Amy Fisher. Questions were routinely met with dismissive responses, concerns were reframed as tenant issues, and communications often felt designed to end conversations rather than solve problems. When we continued advocating for proper remediation, the matter escalated to legal counsel on management’s behalf, which felt like an effort to discourage further complaints rather than resolve them. We were also given a remediation plan that was focused on covering up or masking the issue than actually investigating it. We dealt with an ongoing strong, persistent mold-like smell, waiting for a real inspection or clear answers that never fully came. Instead, we were pushed towards quick fixes without transparency about what was causing it, whether it was safe, or whether there was a larger underlying issue in the unit. Building-wide maintenance concerns were equally frustrating. The front entrance remained unsecured and open for weeks, repeatedly blamed on “waiting on a part”—the same explanation frequently given for elevators that repeatedly were broken down. Residents were expected to accept ongoing disruptions and security concerns as normal operating conditions. Most alarming was the attitude toward safety concerns. When residents raised concerns about activity around the property, Amy’s response included statements that matters outside the building were not within their jurisdiction, which demonstrated a complete lack of concern for the people who actually live here. After years of residency, we left with the impression that tenant concerns were viewed as obstacles rather than problems to be solved, which ultimately led to our decision to leave. I’d suggest looking elsewhere for housing, as there are other affordable options just one street over, near Randolph and Columbus.

Stayed here for a year. I was being weird and transferred leases 3 times, but the management was super helpful each time. Can’t remember a single issue during my stay. Special thanks to Staphany and Jennifer!

I lived here for more than four years, but I don’t recommend this place to anyone who needs to work from home: many rooms in the building are being renovated right now. It could be very loud in the morning. The office said it would be done by end of this year, which I don’t believe. Another reason is the rise of rent: for my last year, I only get two options for renewal, 12 or 13 months with the same raised price. The company didn’t give old residents any discounts or other options. This building is actually old and out of swimming pool or in room laundry, and they gave up the most worthy point to choose here.

Lived in the building in 2025 for a year, coming back with a review after living in another building in the area for fair comparison - absolutely amazing staff, never any issues with apartment or the building - would recommend as an amazing place to stay in downtown Chicago area!
