  If you are an HOA Board looking for a management company, stay far away from Associa Hawaii. Managing a large high-rise in Kakaako requires competence, clear communication, and accountability—all of which this company severely lacks. Communicating with Associa Hawaii has been a constant nightmare. Whenever you call the management office, they treat you like an inconvenience, don't care to help, and rush to get you off the phone. Carol Machado, in particular, has a terrible, dismissive attitude and never bothers to actually assist residents with their issues. You have to send a dozen emails just to get a basic response. Their approach to property management and rule enforcement is completely backward: Zero Proactive Oversight: When it comes to major safety concerns, serious rule breaches, or significant building issues, they do absolutely nothing. Warnings are rarely sent, and major violations go completely unchecked. Misplaced Priorities: Instead of using their industry expertise to properly guide the property, they passively defer to an inexperienced board. Rather than addressing severe, high-priority issues that genuinely warrant heavy fines, they waste time sending nitpicky violation notices over minor things like items placed in a parking stall. At the end of the day, Associa Hawaii is a company that collects premium fees while delivering bottom-of-the-barrel service. Between their dismissive staff, total lack of empathy, and abysmal communication, they make living in a premier building a daily headache. HOA boards: stay far away from Associa Hawaii.

  It is sad to see our board members making decisions without openly discussing problems with residents first on important issues that affect all of us. It is sad to see lawyers involved in simple matters that should be amicably settled when there is transparent communication among all residents and the board. I came to Hawaii to enjoy a simple life not to bring in a board that creates problems where there should not be any if we all got together and come up with solutions. Everyone should have a say so on important matters or at least given the chance to do so.

  Deedee Takushi was an awesome representative of Associa. She was very patient and really listened to my problem. She checked on my records and even gave an example of her own same experience. She gave me suggestions on what I can do and will even try to talk to her supervisor about wavering the late fee. Thank you Deedee!
