I had originally left a 5-star review, as Daniel, the leasing agent, had said something along the lines of "If you leave a good review, say 'Daniel showed me xyz, I'm really excited to move here,' I can maybe get you a lower rent payment." He was able to do this, and for that I'm grateful, but I suspect a lot of the positive reviews here are from people who did the same thing as me to get lower rent.
I saw one review compared him to a sleazy car salesman, and while that seems a bit harsh, he did not seem sincerely concerned with the wellbeing of tenants. Before we moved in, my wife and I asked if the AC worked in the unit, because our last apartment had the AC break in the middle of summer. "I guarantee this AC works," he told us. The AC did not work. In addition to some uncomfortable comments he made toward us, including a P Diddy joke and suggesting my wife would be working in the kitchen a lot, he chuckled on the phone when we called to complain about our kitchen sink being clogged after no one came to fix it after 4 days.
Overall, our experience was rather unproblematic at Manchester at Mansell aside from the few issues mentioned above.
The main problem I had was when it came to moving out. Despite giving our 60 day notice, we received no communication regarding move-out process, inspection, key return, etc. I emailed and called the office multiple times as our move-out date approached, but I never received any response other than the automated "Sorry we missed your call" emails. After moving out, we took our keys with us because the leasing office was closed, and we had no instruction other than "return your keys where you pay rent." A few days later, I received an email from the parent company informing me that I would be charged for rent until we returned the keys. I was unable to return the keys until the following weekend, as we no longer lived in the area.
A couple weeks later, I received the final account statement, which included an additional week's rent. After some back-and-forth with the parent company as I disputed the charge, they ghosted me and sent it to collections. At best, this was poor communication from the leasing office/management. At worst, this was a bad-faith, predatory tactic to force me into paying an additional week's rent.
I would not live here again, and I wish I had signed a lease someplace else. Really pretty property, though.
