I have lived at The Berkeley and unfortunately my experience has been very frustrating due to ongoing maintenance and management issues. We went over a month without reliable hot water because our boiler was not working properly. Maintenance repeatedly provided temporary fixes instead of resolving the actual problem, which meant there were multiple days where I could not even shower while still paying full rent. I understand repairs can take time, but being without a basic necessity like hot water for that long is unacceptable. When I contacted the leasing office to speak with management, a leasing agent made a comment implying that even if tenants went to court, rent would still have to be paid. That response felt dismissive and unprofessional, especially when the concern was simply about having essential services restored. Another ongoing issue is the community gym, where several pieces of equipment have not worked for an extended period despite multiple emails and reports. Amenities are advertised as part of the living experience, yet maintenance requests regarding them seem to be ignored. Most recently, I had an uncomfortable interaction with office staff while using the gym. I lowered some blinds for privacy while working out which is what blinds are there for and was told that staff could still see me through cameras. The comment felt unnecessary and intrusive. As a resident who pays rent, I expect to feel respected and comfortable using shared amenities. I hope management takes resident concerns more seriously moving forward, improves communication, and prioritizes timely maintenance and professionalism with tenants.

    ● I would like to express my concern about the increasing gap between local apartment leasing offices and third-party verification services, such as Twodot’s approval process. Although the field leasing staff can easily verify an applicant’s employment and financial stability, the third-party system imposes rigid and burdensome requirements that make the process unnecessarily difficult. For example, applicants are required to:Obtain and upload two years of tax returns directly from the IRS portal—an inconvenient and security-sensitive process.Provide current bank statements only through official bank portals, adding further complications.Submit tax returns instead of pay stubs, even when physical paychecks are available and accepted by the local office.Unfortunately, field staff have no flexibility to account for real-life circumstances or local conditions and must follow the third party’s standardized policies. In my 48 years of living in the United States, I have never experienced such difficulty in securing an apartment prior to the era of widespread digital verification systems. If third-party services continue to impose rigid requirements without accommodating legitimate applicants, many qualified individuals may abandon the process, and property companies risk losing potential tenants. As of today, I have decided to withdraw my application because of these challenges and hope that meaningful improvements will soon be made to restore fairness and accessibility in rental applications

I called on the behalf of a family that was living there that I sponsored to come to the US. They were not being treated well by management and had water coming through the ceiling of their apartment. The manger spoke to me in a very unprofessional and rude tone. She told me “kapeesh” when she explained they were doing so much for the tenants. I would not live at these apartments if you can. They are very disrespectful to English and non-English speakers. They do not care about their tenants.

I had a wonderful experience living here for over 2 years. Maintenance was timely and the office staff were very nice and helpful. They also didn't rake me over the coals when I bought a house and moved out. Good management.
