I would not recommend Hawthorne Gates to anyone. This has been one of the worst apartment experiences I've ever had.
The property is clearly neglected. There is a recurring rat problem around the dumpster area, and the overall maintenance of the complex has gone downhill. We experienced numerous maintenance issues that should never happen in a rental property. Every time it rains, water comes into our apartment, causing flooding. We've had broken toilets, electrical outlets that don't work, and several other maintenance problems that either took too long to fix or were never properly addressed. The property is also dirty. Management said they were going to pressure wash the walkways and common areas, but it never happened.
We also had to deal with a persistent marijuana smell coming into our apartment, which made living there very unpleasant.
Safety has become a major concern. Police are at the property far too often, including late at night, and the front entrance gate is almost always left open, making this "gated" community feel anything but secure. It seems like there is always some kind of issue or disturbance happening.
Things took a turn for the worse after the new management took over. Since Jhocelin Hernandez became manager, the customer service has been disappointing. Instead of listening to residents and helping resolve concerns, she is often rude, argumentative, and dismissive. She even hung up on me simply because I asked a question. She frequently tries to change or reinterpret the rules, even when residents signed leases and agreements under the previous management, using the management change as an excuse. She doesn't seem interested in listening to residents' concerns, and many of my neighbors have expressed similar frustrations.
I can't wait to move out. The only positive thing about this property is its location. Other than that, I would not recommend living here. If you're looking for apartments in this area, I believe 1000 Spalding is a much better option.
