My experience at Ridgelake Apartments, specifically in apartment 8-303 in building 8, was absolutely disappointing.
The main problem was a persistent cockroach infestation inside my apartment. Cockroaches appeared in the kitchen, on food utensils, inside cabinets and in different areas of the house. I have photographs and videos that document the conditions I had to endure.
The most frustrating thing is that this problem was reported on multiple occasions. I requested pest control service repeatedly and the technician visited my apartment several times, at least four times as I remember. However, the problem was never solved effectively.
Over time I also discovered that other residents of building 8 were experiencing similar problems, so it was evident that it was not simply an isolated situation within a single unit.
But the worst of this whole experience was not the cockroaches. The worst thing was the way the administration handled the problem.
During an in-person conversation at the administration office, Carol Bremer told me that the cockroaches had been taken by me in my clothes or shoes to the apartment. It's hard to describe how offensive and irresponsible it is to hear something like that after having repeatedly reported an infestation that was affecting my quality of life.
As if that wasn't enough, I was also informed that I had to pay approximately $500 because it was the resident's responsibility to carry the cockroaches that I had to pay for an additional extraction and pest control service. In other words, after living with an infestation that had not been resolved despite multiple interventions, the proposed solution was to hold the resident responsible and want to charge him extra money.
Even more worrying was that later they tried to act as if those conversations had never happened.
When a resident reports an infestation over and over again, he expects professionalism, honesty and solutions. What I received were excuses, contradictions, and filling my guilt for what happened, lack of responsibility and an attitude that made me feel that the problem was minimized instead of being solved.
Ridgelake has good facilities and a nice location, but the quality of a community is also measured by the way it responds when a serious problem arises. In my case, Carol Bremer's handling of this situation was deeply disappointing and left much to be desired in terms of professionalism, transparency and attention to the resident.
I have documentation, photographs and videos that support everything expressed here.
I would not recommend living in building 8 until the infestation problems are seriously addressed and the administration adopts a more responsible attitude towards the legitimate concerns of its residents.
