I've lived at the Thread for just under a year. The apartments are beautiful, but the management has been really poor. Within the first 4 months of me living here, there was a new manager every month, and I never received a notification of the change. Management is onsite only once day a week which isn't helpful for people who work a 9-5 job. Multiple times I tried to get in contact with someone, received no response, and then would learn from a neighbor that management had changed again. The building called me twice for "late rent" that was an issue with their management. The first time was for the "first month free" that they somehow forgot to give me. The second was "late" because their portal site went down. The deal when I moved in was for a 13 month lease, but then they gave me a 12 month lease to sign. I had to point out to them that the lease was wrong which they corrected and I signed. On the portal, it continues to list me with the move out date for the 12 month lease, and I'm honestly not sure what's going to happen because I've already brought this to their attention. As I've said, they were impossible to get ahold of, but about 5 months into me living here I started getting called by them every hour for a few days asking for information that I had emailed them when I first moved in. I emailed them the information a second time, and then when I emailed them about a change in vehicle a week later, radio silence. Honestly, I never new who to contact for help at this building because it was new manager all the time. I was told by the first manager I could ask for a second key for $50 for when my family visited. That manager left, and the new manager told me that wasn't allowed...even though I had the prior email stating it was. When I moved in here, I was told the building would have security. At some point without notice, they stopped providing security. I pay for parking. The parking is more expensive than anywhere else that I toured by almost $100, and there's no security and no protection. One of my neighbors car got vandalized and she moved out a week later. The person I park next to had their car broken into--window smashed. Often times when I park, there's someone doing drugs next to our cars. Multiple times I've had to wake someone up and ask them to move to get my car out in the morning. They were unwilling to lower the price even after they failed to continue providing security. A new management company took over and put up security cameras that yell at you every time you walk out of the building. Literally the cameras say, "hey you, in the grey hoodie next to the dumpsters. Get out of here of the police will be called" when you leave the building. There have been multiple issues with key fobs not working. At one point for a few weeks you would get locked into the trash room because the exit door inside didn't work, so you had to go outside in the middle of winter to exit the trash room. At one point the entrance in the back wasn't working. There have been multiple times where the trash room wasn't emptied for WEEKS and you could smell it down the hall. Also, when I moved in to a "never lived in apartment" there was urine all over the toilet seat. There's no concierge and packages are rarely put in the package room. Most of them make it inside somewhere, but I've had several left outside. The apartments themselves are nice, though the screen door is impossible to open and the windows are really difficult to lock. The area is quite loud which didn't bother me, but I had two neighbors leave within 3 months of living here because of the noise.

I love being a resident at The Thread. It has a very welcoming, cozy feel to it unlike many residential properties in DC. The lobby and rooftop area is well decorated as well as open enough for everyone! Dwayne and John have been super helpful and understanding since I moved in, BIG shoutout to those guys! They have been nothing but kind, extremely professional, and understanding! Super grateful to call The Thread home ❤️.

Thread is a truly unique building with fantastic historic architecture and interesting, high design unit layouts. I love the communal nature of the boutique size versus the typical large multi family building. The large outdoor common terrace is a bonus, an amenity not typically found in smaller buildings. While it is in the heart of Shaw, Thread is located on a quiet quaint street steps from restaurants and nightlife but away from the direct hustle and bustle. We love it!

I am so happy living at The Thread. The building is nicely appointed with a well lit, welcoming lobby. The units have beautiful final touches including quartz stone countertops and modern appliances. The property management is very responsive and the location can’t be beat with 2 metro stops, restaurants, Whole Foods, and much more within a short walk. The building has the latest security technology which makes me feel safe. One of my favorite features is the rooftop deck which overlooks the city. If you like city living, the Thread is a great place to live.
