Overall, my experience at Montgomery Mill was mostly positive, with some definite pros and a few memorable cons.
Management was always nice and helpful, and the maintenance crew truly deserves a shoutout — Luis and Ramon were fantastic. They were responsive, reliable, and always made sure everything was taken care of. The janitorial staff member (unfortunately I never caught his name) was also very kind and consistently tried to keep the front lobby and stairwells clean, which I really appreciated.
Pros:
- On-site resources were always available Monday–Friday
- High ceilings and big windows were amazing and made the space feel bright and open
- Washer and dryer included in the unit — super convenient
- Heat and hot water included, which is a huge plus
- Modern, updated units with clean aesthetics
- Dog-friendly with no additional cost or deposit (up to 2 dogs), although some weird tenant on the 2nd floor has 5 annoying dogs that would not shut up, 2 cats, and a whole freaking zoo up there which smells terrible
- Being next to the train station wasn’t as bad as I expected — you get used to it, and sometimes it’s actually kind of nice
Cons:
- Trash and recycling rooms on each floor often got backed up on weekends due to tenants not breaking down boxes and forcing them down the chute
- Since it’s dog-friendly, some people unfortunately don’t clean up after their dogs — expect to see shit around
- Stairwell usually smells like weed on the weekend
- Only one main elevator that is very slow
- Some drafts from the large windows on the brick side (not horrible, but gets chilly during the winter)
- Occasional missing packages from the mailroom
- Very small fitness center and not much amenities to offer for the cost of rent
- A particularly problematic neighbor on the second floor as I mentioned above has stalked my entire life and my friends who also lived there. She doesn't work, is obsessed with my friends and I, and always in everyone's business. Talk about a stage 5 clinger. Mind you, she was so delusional and thought the guy who is part of the management office downstairs was flirting and liked her when he was happily engaged
Because of situations like that, the building sometimes felt less like a quiet apartment complex and more like a college dorm with extra drama.
That said, Montgomery Mill is not a bad place to live. The staff and unit quality were solid — it just depends on your tolerance for shared living behavior and neighbor-related chaos.

My time at Montgomery Mills Apartments was overall a positive experience. With this being a historical building there was added charm, with the large windows, exposed brick and high ceilings. Management and the maintenance staff were available when needed and quick to help. Luis and Ramon, on the maintenance staff, are personable, easy to talk to, always willing to help, and a friendly face to see around the building. As with any place there are always positives and negatives.
Pros:
- Each unit has a washer and dryer, with the unit that I had there was also additional storage where the washer and dryer were.
- Water is also included
- Everything is updated and well maintained throughout the building, not including the elevator
- Dog friendly, most of the residents with dogs are very friendly and the animals are well behaved. As stated in the lease agreement, there is a two-pet maximum yet there is one resident that has five dogs, two cats, and a menagerie of other animals. Which is a little disconcerting as that is a lot of animals for a smaller space to be residing in. Nevertheless, most of the pet owners are great and have well behaved pets.
- Great location, as there are shops nearby, quick access to the highway, and there is a state park trial that is nice to get exercise on.
- Friendly neighbors. Overall, most of the neighbors are very friendly. There was one resident that tried to force a friendship, be wary of this person as they use any information you tell them into fodder with all other residents that they talk to. When you try to distance yourself from them they then try to create false allegations against you to make you feel uncomfortable at the property.
Cons:
- The trash and recycling chute tends to get backed up frequently on the weekends, and the large trash bin outside tends to get filled up fast as well.
- The main elevator is very slow and tends to break down, if you do not live close to the main elevator you will have a trek to get to it and back.
- As with old buildings, the windows can be drafty.
- Mailroom gets overcrowded with people not picking up their packages.
- Deliveries, food deliveries included, can be placed outside of the building as it is not always clear on where to go.
- Packages can occasionally go missing.
Overall, this is a nice place to live, with attentive staff, clean common areas, and a well-kept facility. As with any review, this reflects my personal experience living at the property.
