I am not one to write negative reviews however it has gotten to the point where I want to address several concerns regarding my tenancy and recent interactions with management at Alterra.
First, I want to make it clear that I have never missed a rent payment. Despite this, I received communication from Evita, the property manager, that I found to be both rude and also insinuated that I had failed to meet my obligations. This was not only inaccurate but also delivered in an unprofessional in tone.
Additionally, there was a $340 charge currently posted to my account. I was informed this was related to tenant damage of the in sink garbage disposal, which was inaccurate. It is clearly stated in the lease that the tenant is not responsible for normal wear and tear within the unit. I spoke directly with Tom, the builder, who confirmed that the complex was constructed in 2011, making it approximately 15 years old. The condition in question aligns with expected aging, not tenant caused damage.
I also want to raise concerns about Evita’s conduct during our interaction. She was unprofessional, repeatedly raised her voice, and failed to provide me with a copy of my lease agreement when requested. She stated that she would send it later because she was “busy dealing with more important stuff”, this in itself was dismissive and inappropriate.
Unfortunately, this is not my first issue with her or the management of the complex. During the winter, snow was dumped in my reserved parking spot, leaving me unable to use it for nearly a month. Furthermore, I was falsely accused of having a guest park in a neighbor’s assigned spot. When I asked for proof, such as a photo of said vehicle or license plate number, none was provided despite repeated requests.
Returning to the $340 charge, I did not cause any intentional damage. The claim appears to be another instance of mismanagement or miscommunication.
I want to emphasize that I genuinely like the complex, it is pretty, but my experiences with management have been frustrating and unacceptable. I am now forced to escalate this into a legal matter over $340, and the connecticut department of consumer protection will be contacted.
