⭐☆☆☆☆ — Consistent Negligence, Zero Accountability
Since moving into Villa Sofía on September 1, 2024, management (run by the office at The Plaza at Sherman Oaks) has failed at even the most basic responsibilities, repeatedly and without follow-through.
* Amazon Locker Access: After over a year, we still have not been set up in the system. Packages are left randomly… at our door, in the lobby, outside the building, or at the main office. When they do end up in a locker, we still have to go to the office to retrieve them. Each time, staff asks us why we’re not set up, as if it’s somehow OUR responsibility.
* Storage & EV Parking Requests: We’ve been “on the list” for both since shortly after moving in. No updates. No transparency. At this point, it’s hard to believe any real “list” exists.
* VA Housing Voucher Ignored: I attempted to secure a unit using a VA housing voucher. All paperwork was submitted to the onsite manager, Valerie Cruz. I was told I’d be contacted when a unit became available. That never happened. Emails went unanswered until the voucher expired. As a veteran who was previously homeless, this felt dismissive at best, and discriminatory at worst.
* Lack of Inclusion: Residents of Villa Sofía are routinely left out of community events held at The Plaza (food trucks, movie nights, breakfasts, etc.). It’s clear we’re treated as second-tier tenants.
* Broken Amenities: The community grill is almost always out of propane. In a year and a half, we’ve used it once. Most recently, staff reattached an EMPTY tank instead of replacing it.
* Basic Living Conditions: Our windows are permanently fogged, making it impossible to see outside without opening them. At nearly $4,000/month, that’s unacceptable.
* Safety Concerns Ignored: Following a violent assault incident reported last week, management has not responded at all, despite written notice.
We have been patient, respectful, and cooperative tenants. In return, we’ve received neglect, poor communication, and zero accountability.
If you’re considering living here, understand this: once you sign the lease, you’re largely on your own.

I posted a review just 5 months ago , however I would like to update my experience to 1 stars. Maintenance team, laundry facilities, the overall appearance of this complex, and most of the staff is truly great. The reason for my change in rating is more so based on the mail security of the entire complex. While the actions and intent of a person cannot always be made known , once serious concerns are brought to management's attention, a blind eye is turned or very little is done to make others of the community feel safe. With as big of a complex this is, you would think there would at least be security footage by EACH of the mailbox stations . Sadly that is not the case. So if you are considering moving here, again beautiful and well maintained complex, I urge you to be prepared to invest in your own security camera system . Do not rely on management to help you. Hopefully they will do something about not only the criminal vigilantes that live here , but also invest in complex wide security footage by the mailboxes.
